When we're living with a long-term health condition, it can make you feel alone. So it can be helpful when someone in the public eye talks candidly about problems with their health. When household names talk about any type of health

problem it can help boost our awareness of conditions we may not otherwise know much about. And since so many of us find it particularly difficult to open up about things like depression and anxiety, celebs who expose their own issues with mental wellbeing can really help us feel we’re not alone.

So thank you Catherine Zeta-Jones and Stephen Fry for speaking out about

having bipolar disorder; Gwyneth Paltrow and Billie Piper for your insights into postnatal depression; and Prince Harry and singer Ellie Goulding for revealing your experiences with panic attacks – to name just a few examples. Thank you all for helping to chip away at the stigma that unfortunately still surrounds mental health issues. In this issue of All About Health we reveal how British actress Emma Thompson –

who has played many a strong female leading role – has also discussed publicly how she has coped with bouts of depression, some of which were triggered by life events that affect many of us. If you’ve been affected by the issues Emma talks about, consider following her lead

by trying not to bottle up your feelings. If more of us found it easier to talk about our mental health, it’s quite possible that more of us could get the help and support we need to feel better.

Stay healthy Christine
