from Sally WELCOME to the 2018 edition of our Christmas magazine and thank you so much to the team at the MDA for putting together such a professional and enticing publication. There are some great shops and businesses in Newton Abbot town centre and a browse through these pages will remind you of the ones which you may know and also introduce you to some new ones! Christmas is a time of the year when
we enjoy visiting the shops and it’s an opportunity to get into the festive mood, so do make the most of all that Newton Abbot has to offer and I’m sure that you will find festive inspiration from this magazine. We all have our shopping routines, but I urge you this Christmas to maybe turn left, when you would have turned right, or park in a different car park and in that way, you might dis- cover some hidden gems. Union Street, Devon Square, Wolborough Street and Bank Street for example are homes to some super local independent busi- nesses, shops and cafes! In the last year we have seen an amaz- ing transformation of Market Walk Shopping Centre and what a joy it is to shop there now! The protection af- forded by the glass roof and canopies will be much appreciated by shoppers this winter and the bright and airy ex- perience is a far cry from the dark and dingy scheme we had become used to. Market Walk will host the Mayor’s Carol Service once again this year for our final late-night shopping event and I’m so pleased that the Newton Abbot Rock Choir will be performing again. We have our three late night shopping events, complete with visiting markets, street entertainment and live music and not forgetting Father Christmas in his Clock Tower grotto. We also have a fantastic switch-on event, with the lights being switched on by the ‘Big Man’ himself, fol- lowing his carnival parade and culminat- ing in a musical firework finale from the clock tower roof. If you haven’t experi- enced Christmas in Newton Abbot, do take a look at our video, which can be found on the town council website and at the same time check out the What’s On page for more information on events and entertainment. Parking is free from 4pm for our
three late night shopping Wednesdays in many of the town centre car parks and its free in all of them from 6pm and free all day every Sunday, so there is another great incentive to come into Newton Abbot!
‘Come Over All Christmassy’ and join me in Newton Abbot town centre this December. See you in town!
