Traffic scheme to cut village centre speed
THElong-awaitedtraffic-calming scheme for Lower Road in East Farleigh – now a very busy and vital artery for theWeald– should be completed by the spring. The changes will impact on
many drivers, most of whom are nowusing the roadas aMaidstone bypass to cross the ancient single- lane East Farleigh Bridge to and fromtheA20 andM20. The £75,000 project will include
a new buff-coloured surface close to The Bull public house and church (with painted “virtual” speed humps at both ends) and also at the top of Station Hill and lower Vicarage Lane. There will be enhanced village
gateways east of Kilnbridge Close andwest of StHelen’s Lane. Speedlimit repeater signswill be
enhanced, and some speed limits will be prominently repeated in red on the road. Traffic calming featuredstrongly

Burberry Lane, near Kingswood,
has been targeted by waste dumpers for years, but in recent months, the problem has become more acute withwaste often strewn across the middle of the road. Cllr Gill Fort, pictured right, said:
ton explained: “The parish council is pleased to announce that the scheme comeswithinthe budgeted price of circa £75,000. “We have listened to concerns
“Every month we are having toi- lets, sinks and construction waste dumped in the village, specifically in Burberry Lane. We are now thinking of installing cameras on private land to oversee the problem area.” A recent event in Burberry Lane
saw a caravan burned out while a car remains on a footpath nearby,
over speed bumps, street lighting and traffic noise, and believe we now have a scheme that Kent Highways suggest will both re- duce speed and highlight the vil- lage centre as a high- risk area, with the minimum inconvenience to residents.”
