Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic 3.0LitreV6 SuperchargedAWD Model on test: £69,180

ROAD TEST BY TOBY AIKEN

Acoupleof years ago, I testedthe F- Type roadster. Itwasquite simply stunning. When I got the chance to have aplaywith it’s solid-roofed brother, Iwas hardly going tosay no! The F-Type isquite simply a

beautiful car.Thatdoesn’tdoit justice, but I haven’t thepower to thinkof a superlative thatmatches its looks. The curves look great fromany angle, andthe twin central exhausts beneath the hunkereddownback endmake it lookpoised, powerful and ready togo.Andohmy goddidit go… I have alwaysbeen a fanof Jaguar…

evenwhen they cavedin andmade an SUV, initially Iwasdisappointed that they haddone so,but theymade an incredibly goodjobof it.Right from themoment they unveiledthe originalE-Type, Jaguar has shown that they candesign abeautiful car, and through the evolutionof theXK modelsof the late ‘90s, they continuedtohighlight their ability, but with this F-Type coupe they have surelyoutdone themselves. If I had the funds tobuy any sub-£100k car, I wouldbe hardpushedtobuy anythingbut this F-Type. I justdon’t knowwhat equals the looks, the feel andthe ear-pleasingly loudexhaust. The exhaust noise is heightenedby

the ‘active’mode thatopens upa newlevelof noise.Without it, it’s fantastic. With it, theonlywordthat works is sublime. Okay, soit looks andsounds good…

But howabout thedrive? The superchargedV6is an amazing power unit.Thismodel hada stunning 380bhpon tap, soitwas always going tobe swift. But the gearbox andexhaust are the real starsof the showhere.Thepower delivery andgear change are as crisp as a newbanknote.Andas for the noise…every single time i startedthe engine (making sure toswitch the exhaust toactivemode first,of course) I smiled. And, sodidmostpeople around

me. Itwasdeliveredtomyoffice and not amorningwentby that Ididn’t see someone stopping andstaring as theypassed.Acoupleofpeople askedif itwas anAstonMartin - it’s

that levelof gorgeousness…one person saidthey thought it lookedtoo much like anAston…surely that’s not possible? Luckily, theweatherbehaved

enough soIdidn’t have toworry about slippery conditions andIwas able togive it somebeans.Nomatter what Idid, it handledamazingly. Planted, yet fun, safebut exhilarating. I’llbe honest I hadit in sportmode 99%of the time.Combinedwith the active exhaust, itwas theperfect pairing. The exhaust is a costoption on lower specmodels, but is includedon theR-DynamicAWD. If you choose a lower spec, pay for the exhaust. Ipromise youwill not regret it!
