Stay on track in the run up to – and during – Christmas

Personal Trainer SamNeades shares her top tips on sticking to your healthy eating regime during theChristmas period

The nights are drawing in, the days are getting colder – yes, winter is here andChristmas is on itsway! It can be tough to staymotivatedwith your healthy living plan, especially as party season is on itsway, but there are some simple steps you can followto stay on track asmuch as possible over the festive period.

Stick toa routine There’s no doubt about it, the run up toChristmas is a busy time of year. Whatwith all the parties, kid’s events and preparing for the big day itself, it can be overwhelming to try and juggle all thatwith your regular

exercise and diet plan. But don’t let all of this take over your entire life. So, perhaps you can’tmake your regular Pilates class or gymtime due to other commitments; try and allocate other free time to looking after yourself. Even if it’s only a quick 30-minute gymsession, or a briskwalk around the block on your lunch break, it’s important to stick to your routine asmuch as possible; your body andmindwill thank you for it!

Control indulgence Indulgence is a given atChristmas time, and it should be enjoyed!

However, try not to go completely off the rails (as tempting as itmay be). Instead of piling your platewith twelve roast potatoes, go for just a couple. Rather than sitting down in front of the TVwith a box of chocolates, ration yourself to just a couplewith a cuppa. You’ll still get to enjoy those treats butwon’t overdo them; and you’ll feel better for it.

Make sensible choices At those social events, you don’t need to abstain fromalcohol completely, but try and choose lower calorie tipples like gin and slimline tonic rather thanwine.Alternate
