36/ OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2018 THE RIDER

2018 Cadora – Ontario Silver Dressage Championships – Western Division

By Heather Warner Clear sunny skies welcomed

dressage enthusiasts to the An- caster Fair Grounds on Saturday, September 29th to participate in the 2018 Cadora – Ontario Silver Dressage Championships – West- ern Division. This year, the event which was hosted by Glanbrook Cadora saw 33 lovely paired horse and rider combinations contend for Ontario Silver dres- sage championship status by competing in dressage class divi- sions from walk trot to third level. These resultant division champion scores are calculated with the scores obtained by the dressage riders who competed at

the Ontario Silver Dressage Championships – Eastern divi- sion earlier this year at Westar Farms Ashton Ontario. Officials for the day were

dressage judges Leslie Kennedy ( EC “SS” ) and Claude Diotte (EC “SM”) who also officiated in the Eastern division to ensure the same fair judging was applied across Ontario, stewards were Janet Wile and Mary Joe Figueira and the official show photogra- pher was Linda Wiesner Photog- raphy. The success of a horse show

is achieved from the contribution of many people which included several hours of motivated plan- ning behind the scenes with the

executive team of the organiza- tion Glanbrook Cadora , but an enormous contributing factor to the accomplishment of a great show was due to the many ener- getic volunteers who undertook various tasks to ensure that the show ran efficiently and kept on schedule. A special acknowl- edgement is to recognize and thank the numerous sponsors for their generosity for their contri- butions to the day - . From the items in the well stuffed “swag bags” that each competitor re- ceived upon arrival to take home to fall flowers and straw for the well attended photo display stage, all helped to make the day a success.

A highlight of the day

was at the lunch break with a a Grand Prix freestyle demonstration ride by Esther Mortimer of M2 Dressage in Water- down with her gelding Di- amond Geezer ( aka Gerry ) Esther delighted the crowd with her elegant performance with her horse ridden in a single snaffle bridle, appearing to dance effortlessly to the music all the while smil- ing and conducting chal- lenging movements such as canter pirouettes with

one hand waving to the cheers of the spectators. Truly a delight to watch nd an aspiration for all those who ride dressage! A brief biography prepared by Ralph Mortimer, Esther’s father was announced prior to Esther’s ride. Years ago when Chris-

tilot Boylen had the vision to create Cadora, she pre- dicted that Ralph Mortimer who was the first member of Cadora, would go to Central America to preach the gospel of dressage. She also predicted that Cindy Ishoy would rise to the top in the dressage world. Today we are fortunate to

have Ralph’s daughter Esther Mortimer and her horse Diamond Geezer, also known as Gerry, competing last year at Devon and The Royal Winter Fair in the Grand Prix. Esther showed Prix St George at 9 years old on Eva Maria Pracht’s horse Willow and

now she has competed in three Pan American games and most recently earned two bronze medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games in July on Sue Schamayar’s horse Adagio. Esther and her husband

Harper own and run M2 dressage in Millgrove Ontario. Harper did very well in Wellington last year winning gold for Team Canada

on Pat Douglas’s horse West- eross. So we have Canada and Guatemala working together for Cadora’s future. Please join me in welcom-

ing Esther Mortimer and Gerry. We are in for a treat!” So another year of dressage

competition is done, ribbons are hung up and onward to what 2019 will bring.
