A wow weekend at the ORHA Grand Finale!

By Susan Lorden Fast horses, great riders, and amazing vol-

unteers who kept everything running smoothly over the three days. If you weren’t there, you missed a fantastic time. The show ran two full slates of green,

youth, rookie and limited classes and a single slate of the upper level classes including a $1,000 added Open, $1,000 added Non Pro, $3,000 added Novice Horse classes and Satur- day night’s $3,000 Maturity. I love how the crowd cheered for each rider applauding and whistling when maneouvres were done well. The support from fellow riders was amazing to see. Awards presentations followed each divi- sion where trophies and prizes, from headstalls to skid boots were presented. The Champions in the ORHA classes received beautiful leather halters with brass plates. The Supreme High Score Award, the custom saddle rack made by Mike Munroe was awarded to Anne Salter Dor- land and Chickoree Charlie for having the high- est accumulated score for the show. A special thank you to all the sponsors who made the weekend so amazing! Saturday the ORHA Chili Cook-off

brought everyone together to meet, mingle, and of course, choose the best chili out of the seven entries. It was a hard fought battle but in the end, Jen Kendall was proclaimed the winner, receiving $100 and a one-of-a-kind trophy. Coming in a close second was Joanne Milton, receiv- ing $50. All the participants received wooden spoons. It was an excellent time with delicious food and new friends! None of this could have happened without

the

ORHA Show Committee and the volunteers. Many thanks to the Laura Hender- son, Mike Munroe, Gary Yaghdjian, Joanna Milton and the other volunteers who manned the in gate, scribed, and helped out. This was my first experi-

ence of the Grand Finale show, and I’m looking for- ward to next year’s showing season already. Maybe I’ll be in the Green as Grass or Prime Time classes next year, if I get up to lope this winter.
