Rotary Heritage Coast Walk/Run - What a Result!


FOLLOWING this year’s highly successful Heritage Coast Walk/Run which attracted a record 967 entrants, a cheque presentation to the main charities recently took place at Halesworth Golf Club. Organised jointly by the


Rotary Clubs of Saxmundham and Framlingham, the Presidents of both clubs presented cheques for £4,000 each to SERV and Riding for the Disabled (Woodbridge & District).

Accepting a cheque from the Saxmundham President Owen Lower, and Clive Shepherd, SERV events manager for Suffolk & Cambridgeshire, said they were run entirely on voluntary contributions collecting and delivering by motor cycle, blood and breast milk between the main hospitals in both counties. To enable breast milk to be now collected from homes, the money would be used to buy new sat nav equipment and to replace one of the older motor bikes with a newer model. presented a cheque to John Anderson, Trustee for Riding


for the Disabled who are based at their new centre at Clopton, near Woodbridge. The RDA provide a valuable service to both adults and children with disabilities and allow them to ride with the assistance of highly trained volunteers. Having just built a new stable block, the money will be used for a horse walker which can be used in all weathers. Each year and for the past


twenty years, the John Paul Rose Bowl, in memory of a past member, is presented to a person or group that is considered to have made a significant contribution to the event. This year, Rotarian Ron Geater presented the rose bowl to Nicky Comer. For the last five years, Nicky has


acted as registration officer and is a highly valued member of the team. Since the Heritage Coast


Walk/Run, probably better known as the Marathon, was first run some 36 years ago. The event has raised over £500,000 which has been distributed to a wide number of charities both locally and nationally. Next year’s event takes


place on Sunday 5th May 2019. Details will be available on the Club’s website, Facebook and Twitter pages.
