The Castle Inn, Framlingham It would be hard to argue that

this pub doesn’t have the best view of any in our region. At the entrance to the 12th century Framlingham Castle, David and Amanda Fisher are now well into their second year at the Castle Inn, having taken over in May 2017. The pub itself is exactly what a pub should be - traditional, cosy and centred around a well-stocked bar. Pubs are the hub of a community; friends, families and colleagues gath- er to discuss life and put the world to right! The Castle Inn is just such a place – people getting together to have a

good time and enjoy some excellent food and drink and good old-fashioned service with a smile. Naturally, being at the heart of a destination town such as Framlingham, the Castle sees many holiday makers and day-trippers every day. Yet, there are many locals that use the pub regularly too and David and Amanda know the importance of ca- tering for all comers. They have struck a nice balance. The Castle is not tied to any one brewery so David and Amanda serve a wide selec- tion of drinks. Behind the bar you will find five real ales in- cluding local favourites from Adnams as well as some reg- ularly changing guest ales. There are three lagers on tap alongside Aspall cider, and the ever-popular Guinness. Of course, a good range of spirits and a comprehensive

wine list are on offer as well as plenty of bottled drinks and all the soft drink options you would like to see. It is also now important to serve excellent tea and coffee to cater for the café culture that is becoming more and more prominent. To this end the Castle serve a wide selection of fresh tea and coffee which is proving very popular. Those looking for some-

thing to eat will be pleased to find a menu serving a good selection of traditional British dishes and pub clas- sics. All dishes are cooked from fresh in-house, whether stopping for a three-course meal or a quick light bite for lunch. Winter warmers such as cottage pie sit alongside all-time favourites including Adnams beer battered fish & chips. Over the last year David and Amanda have created

a games room to the rear of the courtyard. This has two pool tables and the Castle are looking to enter in to a local league so if you are in- terested in getting involved please call in. To follow the sporting theme there are now large screen televisions in the pub and games room screening all major sport- ing events as well as regular football and rugby matches. understandably, this is prov- ing very popular. The team are always look-

Businesses in Saxmundham come together for the

Blossom Appeal

NOTICED anything differ- ent about the shops in Sax- mundham this month? That’s right, they have bras hanging/ displayed in the windows. The idea came about as a means of raising the profile of the town whilst also supporting this great cause. Visitors to the town have

been able to pop in to the shops and buy a badge or make a donation to raise funds for a new breast care centre at Ipswich Hospital. You will see that the whole town has come together to support this fan- tastic cause and it has sparked many an interesting conversa- tion on the pavement! As a bit of interest on the

side Michael Light, from the George Farnham Gallery in the centre of town, has agreed to dye his hair pink should the total amount raised exceed £1,000. This is looking more and more likely as each day passes so get ready for Mi- chael’s new look! Janene and the team at Heavenly Hair and on and hand ready with the dye! It is all a lot of fun and has brought the whole town to- gether in raising awareness and much needed funds for this charity. To get involved please call in to the shops in town or visit Michael’s Just Giving page - www.justgiv- ing.com/fundraising/michael- blight

England men in Sri Lanka for the ODI's, T20's and Test Matches and similarly the women's T20 World Cup in the West Indies. My two days planned

watching live County Championship came to nothing as both days in question were washed out due to heavy rain! England are having a

However, as the nights draw in we are all starting to think about Christmas so why not plan ahead and book your Christ- mas party here at the Castle? With two courses being £16 or three for only £22, it is great value and you know you will be in for delicious home-cooked food. The pub will also be open for drinks on Christmas Day. The Castle Inn is a family friendly dog loving pub that truly caters for all occasions, be it a family meal or a good night out. Races, races and more races for the Flyers

AuGuST and September were busy months for the racing Flyers. In fact, some weekends Flyers were racing at multiple events across distances from 5k to Marathon and more. On the evening of August

3rd, 26 Flyers were racing around the streets of Ipswich at the Twilight 10k. This has become a very popular event in recent years due to the flat course and massive crowd support. Our first two runners to finish were separated by 7 seconds with Jim Last in ninth place and Adam Howlett in 11th. Seven Flyers ran PB’s. On August 10th Darren Sheppard, James Bouldin, Jamie Payne and Bev Woodruffe all completed the Wortwell 10k with Darren coming second in his age group. The Aliens vs Trailrunners

event is held in Rendlesham Forest with the option of half or full marathons on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th. The more sensible Flyers opted for one race over the weekend, while seven opted to run two races in two days. On the Saturday 14 Flyers ran the half marathon, which started at 8pm, in the dark! One Flyer

ran the night time marathon - Jim Last. On Sunday 12 Flyers ran the half and Jim ran the marathon again. These races started at 10am. In the half marathon on Saturday Chris Leek was second; Nick Hammond, running the most amazing bright green alien one piece head to toe costume, finished in third. For the ladies, Laura Ali was second and Michelle Hewitt third. Jim Last won the marathon in 3hrs 3 mins. In the half, John Aldred was second and Paul Brown third, Laura Ali was second again although the women who finished in first had not run two races in two days. Jim Last ran the daytime marathon and won again! Over the same weekend, Adam Howlett and Emma Harwood ran the Stour Valley Path 50k on the Saturday. The following Sunday, Steve Dunnett, Jamie Payne and James Bouldin ran the Gt Yarmouth Half Marathon with Steve winning his age group, James Howlett ran the Dereham 5k, Hugh Langley completed the Ely Monster Triathlon. September 2nd saw the 34th running of the Framlingham 10k and Junior race. A record

340 runners completed the 10k. 75 under 15’s completed the Junior event. In this the first two runners were Alec Mackay and Charlie Peacher. As well as Alec, Brandon Barber, Fliss Kindred, Kirk and Betsy Kirk all won their age groups. The winner of the 10k, Ipswich Harriers John Millar, lowered the course record by well over 1 min to record 30.35. Adam Howlett was first Flyer home, and first in his age group in 35.40 and six Flyers set new PB’s. On September 8th Daisy

Glover and Scott Manning ran the Chappell Ale Trail race and finished first and second both recording the same time. September 9th was the day for the Gt North Run, Lowestoft Scores Race and Langham 10k, 5k and 2k. There were five Flyers in the Gt North Run and seven in the senior Scores race with Rob Mackenzie winning his age group. Alec Mackay was the lone junior running. The Kirk family were out in force at the Langham races. Tommy and Betsy ran the 2k, Fliss ran the 5k and Mum Lydia ran the 10k as did Emma Newman. 15th and 16th was Round

Norfolk Relay and Gt East Run Half Marathon. In the Great East, Andrew Rooke lowered his previous best time by over 7 mins to 67.31 in finishing second. Daisy Glover was second female. In addition to Andrew, six other Flyers lowered their PB’s with Adam, Daisy and Steve Dunnett winning their age groups. Over the Saturday and Sunday a large team of Flyers completed the Round Norfolk. This 197 mile continuous relay takes 17 runners, countless cycle and car support people and a team of five time keepers. The Flyers had one of their best results when winning the trophy for finishing within one second of the predicted time. The Coastal 10 at Felixstowe on 23rd was very successful for the club when 28 Flyers took part, Jim Last was second, Adam Howlett was third, Daisy Glover was first female and ninth overall; 16 lowered their PB’s and five won their age group. Stowmarket Half Marathon

on 30th saw five Flyers with Jim Last and Mandi Moyse winning their age groups.
