News from Framlingham and Saxmundham Cats Protection

WINTER is approaching; time to cuddle up in front of the fire with a cosy cat on your knee. Well, not all cats like a cuddle, but most are happy to snooze on a comfy rug or sofa. What great com- panions and a comfort they are. The hectic kitten sea- son has kept our fosterers extremely busy for months and we have lots of mature cats in care who need new homes too. So, if you are looking for a furry friend to keep you company, please consider adopting rather than shopping on a dubious in- ternet listing. You can adopt from CP with the confidence that your new companion has been health checked, treated for worms and fleas, vac- cinated microchipped and neutered. Diary dates: A chance to meet us and to stock up on gifts, CP Christmas cards, di- aries, and calendars: Novem- ber 3rd - Animal Charities Christmas Bazaar, united Free Church Hall, Framling- ham; November 10th - Fram

and Sax Christmas Fair, unit- ed Reformed Church Hall, Southwold; November 21st - Halesworth Library and No- vember 24th - Fram and Sax Stall, Framlingham Co-op. Cat care: Please spare a thought for your feline friend during noisy firework cele- brations. The noise and flash- ing lights from fireworks can be distressing for pets. Fol- low these simple tips to keep your pet safe and sound: keep cats in after dark and provide them with a litter tray; make sure they feel secure in a set- tled familiar territory; ensure all doors and windows are se- curely closed and curtain are drawn; play soothing music; consider using a pheromone diffuser or spray (available from pet shops and vets). Cat Facts: We are often asked why there are a variety of colours, temperaments and coat length in a litter of kit- tens. The answer is there can be more than one father for one litter. Female cats come into heat every few weeks during the breeding season,

usually from February to August, but they can become pregnant all year round. Pregnancy lasts around nine weeks and heat cycles usu- ally stop during this time. It is possible, however, for females to come back into heat whilst pregnant and, if another mating occurs, this can lead to further foetuses being conceived, with kittens from different fathers born to the same litter. Looking for a home: These delightful young ladies are Fleur and Fern. Now just over a year old they would like a home together in a qui- et rural location without any other pets. Could you offer them their new start in life? See our website: framand- sax.cats.org.uk or telephone 01728 723499 for more in- formation about adopting cats in our care; event dates; neutering; cat-care leaflets; how to become a volunteer fundraiser or fosterer and other ways you can support us. Woodbridge RUFC Match Report - Saturday 6th October

WOODBRIDGE was hungry for a first win and started with a vigorous James Porter chase and regather. Crusaders conceded the first of what was to be many penalties and Jamie Smith missed a penalty effort. Crusaders big pack mauled out of danger and survived another penalty to push back and allow hard-working scrum half Rob Loone to take three points. Crusaders charged down

midfield through second row Alex Widdrington, distributed by Loone for a kick downfield where right wing Jamie Dack failed to stop Clogg clearing. Woodbridge No-8 Jono Cooke led a counter attack from a great Dan Knights and Archie Walker line-out that saw Woodbridge mount a sustained threat on the visitor’s line. Another great drive from Crus front row; Henry Joy, Sam

Barker and Henry Mower averted danger. A couple more penalties and Crus were down to 14 and under the cosh. A couple of thumping crashes from Cooke and quick hands resulted in Jeff Buchanan running in unopposed to score. Crus put in a strong response, Mower to the fore, but Woodbridge held firm. Crusaders lead the restart

using fly half Ryan Harris and centres George King and Tim Zielinski until poor hands allowed Buchanan to thunder up-pitch. Fly half JP Hart tried a cross-field kick, big Ed Banthorpe and Tom Edwards picked and drove until penalised for obstruction. It was Crusaders’ turn with Joy battering up the left wing only for centre Tom Stokes to rip possession for a short- lived counter as both sides scrapped it out between the 10m lines. Yet another penalty

gave Loone an opportunity and he took three more points in blustery conditions. Crusaders’ thrust was frustrated as Hart found a great touch just inside their 22 where Plummer and the forwards made a strong play for the line only for Zielinski and wing Lewis Kenworthy to counter back to the Warrior 22 only to knock on. Woodbridge pressed hard with Cooke a constant carrier but Loone rallied his troops with Harris and Kenworthy scampering up the right wing. Like snakes and ladders Crus went route 1 climbing the ladder through their forwards, driving again and again only to lose possession and slide down the snake of Hart and Clogg back into their own danger zone, Hart having a certain try slapped out of his hands. Woodbridge Warriors 7 v Crusaders 6.

Three times Sharp pulled away, only for Howard to come back and level the scores. After 28 ends had been played the players were tied at 18 shots each and Howard finally broke the deadlock and took the next two ends running out the winner 21-
