CHAMBER FEATURE: TOURISM & HOSPITALITY

The event welcomed both members and non-members to hear from four expert speakers including Charles Hackett, Chief Executive at Mayflower 400; Sally Everton, General Manager at Visit Devon; Andrew Huckerby, Hospitality Change Specialist and Simon Nicholls, Group Managing Director at Devon Power. The audience of 70 had an

update on Plymouth’s Mayflower 400 plans as well as the opportunity to hear about energy efficiency schemes for the hotel industry. The event also covered how Visit Devon has successfully established regional relationships to help increase the whole area’s visitor numbers and heard how hoteliers and tourist attractions must be continually improving their products and services. Chamber Member Geoffrey

Rogers, Principal of GRCA Accountants, said: “A great mix of interesting people, speakers and venue made it an excellent event.” Non-members Valerie Taplin

from the Tamar Valley Tourism Association and Samantha Dennis from Kingsbridge Information Centre also commented:

“An informative and well organised event in a delightful location. We learnt a lot and made some useful contacts. This is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate how we can all benefit when we all work, better, together.” “I really enjoyed the event, the

lunch and the venue were fantastic. The speakers were very interesting and I approve of how you prepare table plans beforehand so that a member of the Chamber sits at each table to instigate introductions - really well organised and very professional - thank you!”
