Plymouth-based IU Energy has been named as the UK’s top energy consultancy by a panel of independent experts at the ‘Oscars’ of the energy sector – The TELCA Awards 2018. The company picked up the top

prize, sponsored by British Gas, after winning the South West regional title for the second year running and was subsequently named as Consultancy of the Year 2018, ahead of 11 other finalists from across the country. In selecting IU Energy for the

prestigious award, judges from blue chip companies and the Energy Institute cited the company’s, “Firm grasp of return on investment, business growth and client focus”. IU Energy provides energy

brokerage nationally and energy technology solutions throughout the SW. A good example of how the right solution can impact a business is the project they implemented at The Thurlestone Hotel, in South Devon. Owned by the Grose family since

1896, The Thurlestone Hotel is the oldest family-run hotel in England. With stunning coastal views across South Devon, it is a multi-award winning four-star establishment.

As a holder of the Green Tourism

Gold Award, the hotel owners constantly strive for environmental and efficiency improvements that are sensitive to its stunning surroundings. IU energy conducted an energy review of the entire 19-acre site to

assess current capability, waste, efficiency and investment opportunities. The solutions recommended had the additional challenge of being implemented to accommodate the hotel’s scheduled shut down and be ready in time for that start of their season.

The review flagged several opportunities to reduce energy consumption, invest in a more sustainable fuel source, attract Renewable Heating Incentive (RHI) payments and reduce energy bills.
