The Zip Wire Challenge

Way back in March at the Conference, there was a great sense of anticipation. Our then Association President Liz Thomas with a band of followers was going to descend the Zip Wire at Bournemouth Pier. Sadly, the weather intervened and it was cancelled on safety grounds.

Fast forward to June. No snow now, just beautiful weather. Four of the zippers, including Liz show off their “prize” of a piece of rock following their successful descent. Well done to all the brave ladies who took part. What will we think of next?

Quite a Climb

Urban Mountaineering – well there are not a lot of mountains in London, but President Judith Elliot of Marlow (D9) certainly found something worthy of her efforts. Attired in body suit, suitable strong footwear and a harness, she scaled the O2 Arena!

Did you know – there are 12 yellow supporting towers for the months of the year, the dome is 365 metres in diameter and its full height is 52 metres? That, of course, is because it was originally the Millennium Dome. Judith collected a considerable amount for her charity Fostering Network. A good thing she has a head for heights!

How to make an Entrance

Train, plane, car – how did you travel to the Association Conference? Not quite what the President of Newent Club (D10) had in mind. She cycled from her home town to Bournemouth, a distance of 150 miles. Marie Riley was promoting the work of The Wildlife Trust, Gloucester as well as helping to advertise Inner Wheel with her Hi-Viz vest and logo prominently displayed on her bike. From the picture it looks as if she could quite easily do it all over again!

A “Hair-Raising” Inner Wheel Evening

Members of the Inner Wheel Club of Hinckley might have had a few misgivings about the evening arranged to raise money for the local Pathways Dementia group. They were to be let loose at the beauty salon of one of the club members! With the help of her team they were given expert tuition on how to cut, wash, put in rollers and blow dry other members’ hair. They even had a lesson on how to apply nail polish and make up.

Although they were initially apprehensive, the evidence seems to show that there were no major disasters. They all agreed that it had been tremendous fun with the added bonus of raising money for a local charity.
