FOUR SEASONS HOTEL HAMPSHIRE THE LUXURY COUNTRY GETAWAY

Surrey Magazine was invited by Four Seasons Hotel, Hampshire to experience their luxurious five-star country house hotel and spa.

S

et within 500 acres of historic parkland and grounds with lawns, enclosed gardens, stables and a canal, Four Seasons Hotel, Hampshire is a

wonderfully majestic 18th century Georgian manor house with period-style additional wings and spectacular views of the rolling English countryside. Family and couple friendly, it’s just a stone’s throw away from Farnham in Surrey, an hour by train from London. Located in the bucolic haven of Dogmersfield Park, it was first mentioned back in the Domesday Book of 1086 and was the meeting point for Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon. Original features include an impressive 18th century dovecote.

Local legend states that until the late 18th century, the village of Dogmersfield actually stood between the manor house and Tundry Pond until Henry St John, the owner of Dogmersfield House at this time, decided to move the whole village of houses to their current location to the east of the Estate brick by brick in order to enjoy an idyllic view of the lake from his bathroom window!

Guests are spoilt for choice with a host of country pursuits from quintessentially English outdoor activities such as fishing, croquet or tennis, clay pigeon shooting, falconry, cycling, country hikes, alfresco bespoke picnics on the Estate and top notch Golf 10 minutes away.

As a dog-friendly hotel, your four-legged friends are welcomed provided they are under 30kg, fully house-trained and at least 6 months old. Personalised spring water upon arrival, lovely dog beds and dishes, Barbour jackets & wellington boots and drying towels available will make you feel at home! One of the most loved members of the team, Hampshire pooch born and bred, Four Seasons Hotel’s black Labrador, Oliver Beckington, represents their continual commitment to being a dog-friendly destination.

The Equestrian Centre offers unrivalled facilities and exclusive Clubhouse housing horses and ponies, with trainers on-site. Whether you seek a countryside canter, or own a pony for the day, a private lesson or a scenic hack it is open for all hotel and local residents of all ages and abilities to experience the thrill of horse riding. For younger guests, they have their own “Go Ape” with a zip wire and tree top adventures. An outhouse for watching movies and gaming, and a brand-new children’s adventure pool with big slides is under construction!

Head to the Spa to be pampered and indulged situated in what used to be the Estate’s original 18th-century stable block. It’s a sanctuary of wellness that offers first class beauty treatments. It has a 20-metre indoor conservatory lap pool with connecting outdoor vitality pool, gardens and relaxation areas. Four Seasons encourage making time for wellness with full use of their fantastic Club facilities including fitness and yoga classes and the state of the art Technogym at The Spa. I experienced a 75-minute new seasonal treatment created by their therapists to refresh, firm and invigorate the body! It incorporated locally sourced ingredients of bee’s products, and a proven cellulite-reducing dry body brushing treatment followed by deep tissue massage using a toning serum. The treatment is then completed with their ritual hydrating, nourishing Shea & Lavender Body Butter applied to cool your skin leaving me glowing and feeling fabulous!

After a sumptuous beauty treatment, it seemed fitting to round-off the perfect day watching the sun set with a pre-dinner alfresco drink on the terrace of their newly refurbished restaurant & bar, “Wild Carrot.” I chose “The Garden,” a bespoke floral cocktail creation served in a traditional silver tankard with Silent Pool gin, sloe gin, violet and lavender, deliciously edible soil made of rich choc brownies spilling over with freshest green foliage and a charming mini

wild carrot and strawberry from their vegetable patch on top! “Wild Carrot” offers classic modern British dishes of simple seasonal ingredients sourced locally with a contemporary twist, where service and food are outstanding. The open kitchen, delightful dining room décor with floor to ceiling windows looking out over the estate add to the appeal. We loved the buzz and everything about this place. The ingredients make the most of the bounty on offer – garden plums transformed into one of the chef’s dessert offerings, and blackberries into homemade liquor for example. Afternoon Teas and their Farmer’s Market Sunday Lunch Menu are firm favourites with the locals. Spoilt for choice, we chose the Crab mayonnaise and the Tuna mosaic starters for dinner followed by Black Angus sirloin steaks steak which were cooked to perfection and cut like butter. We both happily saved room for our delicious desserts. From Atlanta to London, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts offer only experiences of exceptional quality and service excellence. They create the finest hotels, resorts and properties of enduring value using superior design and finishes. Their golden rule is to interact with guests as they would wish to be treated themselves and go the extra mile to make guests feel welcome. Expect only the best!
