Saying goodbye to Carole


ON JUNE 23, councillors past and present, clerks and partners of West Malling Parish Council joined together for brunch at The Swan Inn West Malling to celebrate the retirement of Carole d’Silva as clerk after 23 years’ service. Carole was also presented with a Community Award from Kent Association of Local Councils and the High Sheriff of Kent, recognising her outstanding service to the community of West Malling. Carole, who is a


resident of Larkfield, said: “I am very surprised and proud to receive this award. I do miss West Malling and all the friends I have made here, but after 23 years, I think it was the right time to retire, and we do manage to share afternoon tea at regular intervals in our favourite local cafes.”


East Malling Singers rehearse on Wednesday evenings, 8pm to 10pm, at St James the Great Church, East Malling.


Local clubs and societies have their regular meetings as follows start at 7.45pm.


Kings Hill Rotary meets every Monday at 7.30pm at the Spitfire pub.


Chip Productions Drama Group meets Fridays at 7.30pm at West Malling village hall.


Malling Photographic Society meets every Tuesday at West Malling village hall at 8pm.


The Heath Players meet at the East Malling Institute, Mill Street, at 8pm on Fridays.


Malling Rotary meets Tuesdays at 6.30pm at Spadework, Teston Road, Offham.


Spadework Farmers’ Market is on the second Saturday of the month from 10am to 1pm at Spadework, Teston Road. For more details, see www.spadework.net.


Malling Community Choir meets every Tuesday at West Malling Baptist Church, 7.15pm to 9.15pm. £2 per adult, children free.


Wateringbury Flower Club meets every third Wednesday of the month (with the exception of June) at The Institute Hall, East Malling, doors open at 7.00pm for


Malling Stamp Club meets on the second Tuesday of every month at the Clout Institute, West Malling High Street, at 7.30pm.


East Malling Women’s Institute meets at the East Malling Institute behind the King and Queen pub on the third Monday of every month, 7.45pm to 9.45pm.


LeyARA meets on the second Thursday of the month at 2pm at the Leybourne Village Hall. Speaker, raffle and refreshments.


Crafty Chin-waggers. Craft and chat meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. 19:30 to 23:00 in the Village Hall, Butchers Lane, Mereworth.


Craft and chat group Drop-in. Wednesdays, 10am to noon, East Malling Centre.


Malling Art Society meets every Thursday at Offham village hall, 8pm to 10pm.


Malling District U3A Monthly meetings are held at Ryarsh village hall, starting at 2pm, on the fourth Tuesday of the month throughout the year.

Speedwatch dates schedule


A NEW set of dates have been scheduled for Speedwatch. They are July 22 (in the morning) and August 5 (also morning). If you think you can help out as a volunteer, please contact the clerk at West Malling Parish Council on 01732 870872 or via our website.


Allotment plots up for grabs


THERE are a few plots available at the Ryarsh Lane allotments. If you are a resident within the West Malling parish, you can secure a plot with a refundable deposit of £50. Yearly rent is £15. Please contact the Parish Clerk on 01732 870872 for further information.


Wednesday at St James the Great, East Malling. Lots of fun for all children and babies. Starts at 1.30pm.


Mereworth church children’s choir meets every Wednesday. The children’s choir is a free after- school group which rehearses at 6.30pm. Parents welcome. Conductor: Stephen Thomas, 01732 321114. Y1 and up – no need to pre-book.


Addington Bridge Club meets every Tuesday from 7pm in the sports pavilion, Park Road.


Junior ParkRun The Manor Park, West Malling, Junior ParkRun starts at 9am with a series of 2k runs for children aged four to 14, every Sunday.


Adult 5k runs Leybourne Lakes Country Park, Larkfield. Adult 5k runs are held every Saturday, starting at 9am. The runs are free of charge. Register your details at: www. parkrun.org.uk/register
