What’s On Malling & district clubs, societies & activities IT IS never too late to make a fresh start by taking up new


activities or making new friends. The many clubs and organisations in the Malling Action Partnership area cater for a wide range of in- terests and offer a warm welcome to newcomers, so why not give them a try? Details of regular meetings are listed on this page. Mary Rayner collates our community diary with details of various groups and is also compiling a list of special events in the area in


2018. So if you would like your group or event to be included, please send her all the information, including your contact details. Please let her know as far in advance as possible so that it may be possible to avoid clashes and maximise the attendances at each event.

The Kent Police Band will be playing from 2-4pm. Free entry and free tea and coffee available. Bring your own picnic and seating. Donations can be made on the day to RBLI.

Big Butterfly Count at Leybourne Lakes Country Park. Take part in Butterfly Conservation’s national Big Butterfly Count at the country parks. Collect a form from main notice boards near the flag poles, at the park, then walk round on your own ticking the butterflies you see. No booking required. This is a free event. Just turn up at anytime.


Saturday July 21 Park Life Music Festival at Kings Hill sports park from 1pm. A whole host of music, hog roast, BBQ, Pimms and Prosecco bars. Tickets in advance available from the sports park or online from www.skiddle.com

Malling district Lions prostate cancer charity walk. Starts at East Malling research centre, option to walk 3 or 7 miles. Registration 9am until 11am. For more details ring 01732 841078.

Monday August 27 Bat Walk And Talk at Leybourne Lakes Country Park. Join their expert during International Bat Week to discover what lives in the country park at night, with the chance to see Noctule bats and Pipistrelle bats. Just bring a torch! Heritage open days. The Twitch Heritage Centre, Douce’s Manor, St. Leonard’s Street, will next be open from Noon to 4pm (last admission 3.30pm) Douce’s Manor is a private residence, the house and grounds are not open to the public. Parking on St. Leonard’s Street.


Friday – Sunday September 28-30 Harvest Flower Festival at All Saints Birling. Friday 6-8pm, Saturday 2.30-5pm, Sunday 11am-4pm with the Harvest Festival Sunday Service at 11am followed by Harvest Lunch at 12 noon.
