CELEBRATING 10 years of their Cash4Clubs scheme with the opportunity for one club to receive a £10,000 star grant Making a return for the 10th
Paddy Power Betfair offers £10,000 to Grassroot Club The application process
year running, Paddy Power Bet- fair is taking applications from community clubs nationwide for the Cash4Clubs grants. The grant has supported Stoke Green & Liss Cricket Club (in the south east) – as they were awarded £2,000 between them in 2017. The grants available range from £500 to £1,000 and this
year the Cash4Clubs scheme is celebrating a decade of support for local communities by offer- ing the chance for one ambitious club to win a huge £10,000. The charitable scheme is open
to all local sports clubs in the UK, and has given out more than a quarter of a million pound since its launch in 2008 helping clubs to improve facilities; whether it’s carrying out a range of repair jobs, purchasing new equipment, or arranging special- ist training for its members.
encourages entrants to showcase how they would use their grant to make their local club a better place for its members either via a written entry form online or by stretching their creative muscles and submitting a video applica- tion. This year they are also given the opportunity to dream big and let us know how they would take the club to the next level with a whopping £10,000! Entry is open until Friday 31st
August with the awarded clubs being announced and presented with their grants in September. Naomi Totten, spokesperson

Woodbridge Art Club
AT the end of May the club had a changeover of paintings and restocked the shelves with more pottery so there are plenty of new exhibits to be seen if you have already visited the club gal- lery this summer. The pottery group decided to
hold another competition, for whacky egg cups this time. Each potter had to make a pair of egg cups and visitors were invited to drop beads into a pot by the egg cups they liked best. Andy Wright was the winner with Helen Mecrow a close runner up. The public seemed to enjoy the exercise and often had diffi- culty deciding where to put their beads. I think this may become an annual event as it amuses
both potters and public. On August 11th and 12th we
plan to hold an outdoor exhibi- tion in what I believe is called Waterside Square, but I can’t help thinking of as Whisstocks Square! It’s still in the planning stage so more details next month. In the meantime you can visit
the club gallery in Tide Mill Way any Saturday, Sunday or bank holiday Monday between 10am and 5pm. Besides the paintings, pots and lace you will find a selection of original cards, maps and of course, the club’s calen- dar for 2019. Look forward to seeing you.

BOB Spillett, Vice-Chair of Woodbridge Tide Mill Trustees since 2012 and hard-working volunteer, has stepped down from the VC role after a busy five years. Taking up the posi- tion after the Mill’s extensive restoration with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), Bob (supporting previ- ous Chairman Nigel Barratt) has been an intrinsic part of the effort to make the Mill commer- cially capable of economic inde- pendence. Bob will continue to work with, and help co-ordinate, a busy roster of volunteers who look after the maintenance, show visitors around and keep the Mill open through the season – and often beyond it. Such activity, as well as events such as taking part in the recent Beowulf Community Festival, keeps the Mill in the forefront of visitor attractions. Bob also sells and delivers most of the flour produced by the

Mill and was recently to be seen at the Suffolk Show with one of the Mill’s biggest customers; the East of England Co-op promot- ing the Mill’s excellent stone- ground Traditional and Fine wholemeal flours. Chairman of Trustees John
Carrington presented an engraved glass bowl to Bob commenting that “The Trustees are most grateful to Bob for his hard work and dedication to the Mill without which it would not be in the strong position it is today. The fight to keep this symbolic town attraction robust, functioning and solvent contin- ues however and I’m delighted that Bob will remain a Trustee and Volunteer.” Bob is replaced as Vice-Chair
to the Woodbridge Tide Mill Trustees by John Leming, a Structural Engineer and ex Junior Chairman at Woodbridge Rugby Club.

Felixstowe Town Council Elect a New Mayor
AT its Annual Meeting of May 17th, Felixstowe Town Council elected Councillor Graham Newman as the Mayor of Felix- stowe for the Municipal Year 2018/19. On the same evening Cllr Tracey Green was appoint- ed as the Deputy Mayor. On accepting the office of
Mayor, Cllr Graham Newman, who has been Member of the Town Council since 2009, said: “I am humbled and privileged to have been elected by my fellow councillors to serve a second term as Mayor for this coming Civic Year, 2018/19. I am also delighted that my colleague Cllr Tracey Green – an established Town & District Councillor - has been elected Deputy Mayor. Having said that, I know I am stepping into huge boots left by my predecessor, Cllr Nick Bar- ber, who has done a fantastic job over the past year - representing Felixstowe all over the County and beyond - and raising a huge amount of money for his three charities. So yes, 2018/19 will be a dif-
ferent type of mayoral year but I hope one which consolidates and builds upon the many
aspects of our Town’s growing success. Equally I want to focus on supporting those who have yet to be touched by that success - for instance those facing the challenges daily such as loneli- ness and/or “where is the next £ coming from”. To that end, I will be supporting two charities that make it their business to help: The Laydens Community Café in Langley Avenue and The BASIC Life Charity. As we commemorate 100 years of ces- sation of World War 1’s hostili- ties, there will be an intensive programme of events in the town over the fortnight leading up to Remembrance Sunday. Many of these activities will be facilitated by the Town Council itself, so watch out for further details over the next few months. Added to that, we have a growing pro- gramme of events throughout the summer season for the whole town to enjoy as hopefully we welcome thousands of visitors.” If you would like the Mayor to
attend a function in Felixstowe, or to simply ask him a question, please contact mayor@felixs-
