JULY 2018: ISSUE 111
Fellow Members, I started my last diary by stating that ‘we were basking in the lovely May weather’ and it certainly has continued with a lovely evening for our Charity Putting Competition on the Himalayas but more of that later. The weather was not so kind however when eight members visited Alnmouth for the Rotary Club of Alnwick’s Charity Golf event and Storm Hector hit the country. Tree branches, leaves and golf balls were flying in all directions. Despite this we all had a very enjoyable trip with lots of fellowship. During the month I was honoured to be invited, together with many other Rotary Presidents and District Executives, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Freedom from Fistula. (see article) I know I have mentioned in earlier KLIPS, how the presentation of donations to worthwhile causes is a rewarding experience and, this month, I was pleased that we were able to support three organisations, Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia (TCCL), Beach Wheelchairs and, via The Rotary Club of Buckhaven and Methil, support for deprived children in that area of Fife. It was also the time for our Club Assembly where our plans for 2018-19
were presented to the Assistant Governor, Heather Stuart from the Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy Raith, who made very positive comments on the plan and our club. During the month we have had several excellent talks, a Round at Augusta by our member Brian Gray and Jack Daniels a St Andrews Rotary Club member who regaled us with a highly amusing talk on walking in remote parts of the world. As I mentioned at the start, we held our annual Charity Putting event on the Himalayas. This enjoyable evening was made all the more special this year by the stunning weather allowing the prize giving and refreshments to be taken outside. This is the end of my Rotary year, or should I say my first of two Rotary years as I continue as President during 2018/19. I must say I have really enjoyed the experience and I am looking forward to the next 12 months, however, before I start next year, I am going on a wee holiday. So - ‘Bon voyage’ for a few weeks as I leave you in the capable hands of John Fernie SVP.
