JULY 2018: ISSUE 111
As you may recall from a previous article in Kilrymont Klips, plastic milk bottle tops (and only these) are being collected by a number of members and others in St Andrews and go, by various means, via Edinburgh to a Church in Galashiels. In Galashiels the tops are checked to make sure that they are the correct types and then conveyed to a local Recycling Company which is the only one that will take the tops in small quantities of a quarter of a ton. This is a
big help as far as storage of the items is concerned. The tops are then chopped, melted and turned into the outer casing for fibre optic cables. The latest figure for the amount raised for Cancer Charities via these tops is £12,000. As the latest figures suggest that one in two people can expect to be affected by cancer at some time, collecting all colours of milk bottle tops seems to be an easy way to help make a big difference to the charities involved and does not take a lot of effort. A big thank you to all those who already collect their tops and for those of you who do not, why not start now? It is so easy. But please ensure that they have been well washed!! Bring any tops you collect to Club meetings and give them either to Grace Morris.

The school summer holidays are now upon us and this year we will take a leading role in the annual Sandcastle Competitions on the West Sands. Three members are required each Friday in July and the first in August to assist with this - setting out tables, registering entrants and generally supervising the event. You may even get a chance to judge. This is a very enjoyable community event which is attended by locals and holidaymakers and it is good to see how much everyone gets really involved and quite competitive. So please look at you diaries now and see if you can help on one more of the Fridays and help keep this very popular community event alive.
