Goodwood Groundstaff collect Merit Award
Exceptional standards rewarded with Merit Award presentation
The groundstaff team at Goodwood Racecourse recently received a Merit Award for their outstanding work during the 2017 Qatar Goodwood Festival meeting.
The award is only made in exceptional circumstances, when it is considered that a team has performed to exceptional standards over and above what is normally required.
On the Wednesday of last year’s Festival, 50mm of rain fell on the racecourse, 25mm of which was during racing which changed the going to soft, and heavy in places. The groundstaff team worked until midnight that evening preparing fresh new ground. At 5.00am the next day, the team were back out on the course, forking, filling and sanding so that it was raceable. Without this work, at least one of

the day’s racing during the Festival would have been lost.
