Winnipeg is the busiest freighter airport in North America By Michael Badejo

Winnipeg Airports Authority has a major focus on commerce and enhancing the Manitoban economy. We link Canada’s North with the rest of the country, transporting goods and foods into the area and exporting their specialties as well.

M

ade in Mexico, made in China, made in USA and even made in Canada. From flow- ers to food and medicine to machines, we all know the products we use every day get

here somehow – not everything we need is manufactured within driving distance of our great city. But we never re- ally connect the dots of how things get here, simple as it is – through the airport! Winnipeg Richardson International Airport is the busi-

est freighter airport in North America, as a 24/7/365 hub of movement for passengers and your precious cargo. At the heart of the continent, we play a pivotal role in bringing goods across the world. Technology has changed how we do this, as well – even your online purchases are sent through our airport and to your doorstep as a result of a shift in how we do things and how the internet affects commerce. Winnipeg Airports Authority has a major focus on com-

merce and enhancing the Manitoban economy. We link Canada’s North with the rest of the country, transporting goods and foods into the area and exporting their spe- cialties as well. In many ways, the way of life for not only northerners but also the rest of Manitobans and economies across the country relies on an agile, advanced and booming YWG cargo operation. people and businesses, we are consistently looking at next steps. Some of these have already been done in terms of expanding our cargo apron to give more rooms for more planes – we’ve already seen a spike in the size of the planes arriving, and are on the way to seeing more. You may be able to see some of the major planes taking off or being stocked on our cargo apron as you leave the air- port. As well, from the domestic/international departures area, you’ll be able to see many of the large planes wait- ing to go and ultimately taking off with numerous goods. Take, for instance, the new 737 with daily service to DHL’s headquarters in Cincinnati. Our work to secure that means more time for you to get your packages to the shipper, as well as a quicker turnaround time for it to get from Point A to Point B. Business moves at the speed of light, and we’re looking to keep pace with that by improving offerings for Manitoba business and more importantly, Manitoba’s people. We’ll have more to share soon on the continued growth and new projects for the cargo side of our operation. Not only will this keep the Winnipeg economy on the rise, but it will also make sure to provide more accessible affects for Winnipeg people and businesses that want to transport their goods and connect their activity with the world.
