Danube River cruises are a great way to see the historic city of Budapest.
It is decorated with half a million precious stones, 40 ki- lograms of pure gold, and holds the crown jewels. It has 1,000 statues and 29 staircases totalling almost 20 km. It is one of the two tallest buildings in Budapest, along with Saint Stephen's Basilica. I found Budapest to be a beautiful, cosmopolitan city with an interesting vibe that is somewhat different from what I’m accustomed to in Western Europe. But this dif- ference I welcomed. And it’s cheaper than most Euro- pean cities. Te manner in which old buildings are trans- formed into bars and clubs is brilliant. Tere are many hip dance bars set in ruins. Or, you can take in the more eclectic and strangely artistic Csendes Létterem Vintage Bar and Cafe with its kitschy feel. Budapest has the repu- tation for being an epic party city. Where else would you find a party in a thermal bath? Yet at the same time, it has the relaxed and friendly feeling of a smaller city. Budapest was full of many wonderful surprises, espe-
cially since this was my first trip to eastern Europe. I did not get through most of the things on my list, so there’s only one thing left to do…return! Zareeda Awang is writer passionate about travel and in-
