stunned to learn that much of Downtown Palm Springs businesses sit on leased land… with many due for renewal very soon!

Desert Adventures Jeep Tours 715 San Lorenzo Road 760.324.5337

red-jeep.com One of the best ways to understand its overall

natural beauty and to get lay of the desert below, is to take the aerial tramway up to Mt. San Jacinto State Park. The 10-minute journey offers a stunning panorama as you ascend from valley station at 2,643 ft. past the cliffs of Chino Canyon. It’s a unique experience leaving the spare landscape of the desert floor and its heat, arriving in the alpine chill of the 8,516 ft. mountain. Jackets required: A balmy 85 degrees was abruptly over when we disembarked to cold and snow. Hiking shoes are in order too, the mountain park is covered with more than 50 miles of trails and the views below are truly worth the dizzying ride. Now let’s talk about the city side of Palm Springs

coachella valley from arial tramway

and what’s there to partake in. Believe me when I say, there is a lot!

CHOOSING YOUR HOME BASE: There are many LGBT-owned properties to choose

from and my base was Tortuga del Sol in the Tahquitz River Estates area. One of the city’s many adult, “clothing optional” resorts catering to the myriad gay men who frequent the area, the resort features Southwestern décor and quiet low-key apartment- style rooms offering their own kitchenettes. Hosts Robert Petro and Ricardo Gomez have created a quaint, delightful oasis nestled along San Lorenzo Road’s many options. Relax and enjoy Palm Springs famed mountain views from their pool and Jacuzzi, surrounded by pool tables, a firepit and plenty of places to relax and unravel that tension.

and each had unique, varied decor ranging from desert modern and hacienda to more of a South- western vibe. There is something for every taste and budget:Santiago Palm Springs, El Marisol Villas, Escape Resort Palm Springs and Triangle Inn.
