NORTH COUNTY LGBT
RESOURCE CENTER GALA Growing Community Roots:
10 Years of Planting Seeds of Hope is the theme for 2018’s North County LGBT Resource Center Gala taking place on Sunday, June 3 at the Leightag Foundation, 441 Saxony Road in Encinitas. 100 percent of funds raised will go to the Resource Center which will help to fund its many programs and services offered to the North County LGBT community. Their vision is to build a community where everyone lives in equality, feeling accepted, valued, safe and free from social stigma. Since establishing a coalition in 2008, they have planted the seeds of hope in Oceanside and throughout the North County region. This year’s cohost is the breakout star from Bravo’s hit showThe People’s Couch, with a special guest performance by singer/songwriter Wrabel (featured inThe Rage Monthly’s July 2017 edition), followed by reception music from Celeste Barbier. The ten year milestone evening will also include a silent auction featuring over a dozen pieces of original art from local artists, craftspeople and photographers. GAY MEN’S SPIRITUAL RETREAT Bold + Free is the theme for the 2018 Gay Men’s Spiritual Retreat (GMSR) taking placeFriday, June 8 through Sunday, June 10 at Camp Stevens in Julian, California. It is an annual event that seeks to enhance the spiritual lives of gay men with a mission to help set aside preconceptions and fears that separate each of us from true spiritual freedom. The description offered on their website explains the goal and focus of GMSR: “Our faith is calling us to live boldly, to find our authentic selves and share ourselves with the world. As gay men, we are often told to be small, be discreet, be hidden. But that’s not the path to freedom for us. Let’s explore being bold, being out, being intentional, and why it’s worth the effort. Join us as we reveal our vulnerabilities, define our security, explore risk and discover our courage to be.” The event is a safe space for like-minded people to explore and examine their spirituality through workshops and activities both individual and via groups. GMSR is an alcohol and drug-free event and fees include delicious wholesome meals, snacks, entertainment and programming. For more information or to register, go to
gmsr.org.

RAINBOW PROM: WIZARD’S BALL How many of us didn’t get to go to prom, or at the very least didn’t get to take the person we really, really wanted to? For many, there wasn’t even a remote possibility of taking the person who we were most attracted to because of social norms that didn’t think same-sex or any other of the LGBTQ attractions were appropriate for a school function... it wasn’t even a consideration. Times have thankfully changed (for the most part) and the Rainbow Prom sponsored by The San Diego LGBT Community Center now offers a chance for youth to experience those heady moments without the shadow of
prejudice. The Rainbow Prom onSaturday, June 16, offers LGBTQ youth a safe, welcoming and affirming event where they can express themselves. LGBTQ youth want to go to prom, dress up and dance with that special someone, just like everyone else. Best part of this whole thing, beside the fact that it has great food, awesome music, dancing, games, performances and that it’s free! The theme for 2108 is the Wizard’s Ball so grab that wand and cape or what ever magical get up makes you happy and come dance the night away! For more information, go to
