had heard stories about people regularly becoming gravely ill and newborn babies and young children dying from lack of clean water and sanitation. This problem was compounded when in 2015, the country was hit by a devastating earthquake, which destroyed many homes and vital water infrastructure. Determined to make a difference, Theo
and Marcus embarked on a 12-day trek around the challenging Annapurna Circuit, walking for more than fi ve hours each day through different cultural areas and over varied terrain, including paddy fi elds,
bamboo, pine and rhododendron forests, tundra, and over snow-capped peaks. They saw eagles fl ying below them and fresh snow leopard tracks at 5,000m. Altitude sickness and the changing
pressure of oxygen at over 4,500m made the trek both physically and mentally challenging but exhilarating, and Theo is delighted to have raised a fantastic amount to help to provide clean water and safe sanitation to the communities of Nepal. • To donate to WaterAid Nepal through Theo’s fundraising page, visit www.

Holmewood House
Schools generally fi nd it diffi cult to nominate just one or two children as their ‘Star Pupil’ as there are so many outstanding students doing great things. So this month we have a whole ‘house’ of children. Charitable work forms a hugely important part of Holmewood House School’s community values and each house at the school has its own charity that it has decided to support. These charities benefi t through various fundraising events organised by the pupils. The houses at Holmewood House are all named after trees, which form a very important aspect of the location. This year, Beech House has been raising money for Marie Curie Caner Care. The children hosted various
events including a ‘bake sale’; having a ‘splash of yellow’ uniform day; and also attracted donations through a retiring collection during the school production of Wizard of Oz. Children in Beech House baked and sold the cakes themselves and also organised the marketing of the event. They managed to raise a truly impressive £1,192.88! Meanwhile, Oak House is busy raising funds for Headway; Cedar House is fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support; Cob House is supporting Lobitos Community in Peru; Yew House is raising money for Save The Children, and Ash House is supporting Porchlight.
Holmewood House School would like to congratulate all the pupils for the huge amounts of money that they have raised throughout the year, and for all the enthusiasm and energy expended into raising vital funds for good causes. • Visit
