TONBRIDGE TRIATHLON 2018: the results are in!


May Bank Holiday saw the return of the immensely popular Tonbridge Triathlon, now in its 27th year and organised by Tonbridge Lions Club. Just over 400 athletes were drawn from all over the south east of England to compete in the event, which involves swimming in the award-winning indoor pool at Tonbridge School, a cycle discipline that covers the beautiful Kent countryside and a run within the excellent Tonbridge School sports ground, culminating on the renowned school running track. Competing in a choice of two distances –


the Standard (800m swim, 50km cycle, and 10k run) and the Sprint (400m swim, 25km cycle


and 5k run), the Standard distance male winner Tom Webb completed the course in 2hr 20min 22secs, while the Standard distance female winner, Catherine Linney from Sevenoaks Tri Club, fi nished in 2hr 41min 26secs. The winning male in the Sprint distance, Christopher Hovenden, from Les Stables club, took 1hr 13min 34secs and Susan Fairfax, of Crystal Palace club, the winning Sprint female, completed in 1hr 19min 35secs. All competing athletes were presented with medals at the fi nish from Tonbridge Lions President Gordon Hill with his wife Peggy and the Mayor of Tonbridge & Malling, Councillor Roger Dalton.
