060 TONBRIDGE SPECIAL DATES DIARY © Emma Stokes

• The fi rst-ever TONBRIDGE ART FAIR is coming to the newly-refurbished River Walk on Saturday 2nd June from 10am- 6pm. There will be paintings, drawings, sculpture, jewellery, glass, ceramics and more on show from many artists, some local and some not so local, with demonstrations and a chance to chat with the artists themselves. Visitors will also have the opportunity to have their portrait drawn by caricaturist Paul Gurney, so you could say it will be reminiscent of being in Montmartre or on the Left Bank in Paris! The fair is free to enter and guarantees an enjoyable day out by the River Medway.

• TONBRIDGE CARNIVAL PROCESSION & FETE returns to the town on 17th June and promises to be another great afternoon of fun for all the family! This popular annual event begins with the usual carnival procession through the High Street – the theme this year will be Animal Capers, a great title for interpretation, and anyone including individuals, charity groups, clubs, schools and businesses can take part. For most, there is no charge to take part in the carnival procession and any registered charity entering a fl oat may also have a 3m x 3m stall free of charge at the fete after the procession. However, there is a small charge for commercial enterprises. The carnival procession will include bands, walking groups,

fl oats and majorettes, and will leave the car park in front of Sainsbury’s supermarket at 12.30pm and proceed through the town to Tonbridge Castle. The Mayor of Tonbridge & Malling and the President of Tonbridge Lions Club will judge the entries in each category. After the procession, the fete will be held on the Castle Lawn and in Castle Walk during which the winning procession entries will be announced and trophies awarded. The carnival day is organised each year by Tonbridge Lions Club with

support from Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council. Money raised at the event is distributed to local charitable causes and to Lions Club charities.
