DORCHESTER PERFECTION JUST HAPPENS

Surrey Magazine was invited by The Dorchester Collection to sleep inside the most iconic masterpiece of a luxury hotel to celebrate the “Best of British” theme and forthcoming British Season Diary of The Top Social & Sporting Events. The Dorchester continue to take us back each year to the best of the past with English garden parties, alfresco dining, picnic hampers, strawberries and bubbles with a focus on correct dress and good manners.

Located in London’s prestigious Park Lane in Mayfair with unrivalled views across Hyde Park, The Dorchester oozes opulence, charm and grandeur and conjures up dazzling images of the old-school glamour and decadence. It steps back in time to 1931 when it first opened its doors pre- war. It’s not cheap, but unlike so many other luxury 21st century five-star hotels, it has adapted to the times. It succeeded in a much more elegant age attracting many influential people including royalty, rock stars, politicians, foreign millionaires and Hollywood’s finest.

They know each guest is unique with their own requirements and ideas of what they want their stay to be. Highly trained, attentive staff go the extra mile to surpass the guests’ expectations and make it as special as they can. Whatever the occasion, nothing is too big or small. Their focus is to make it just what they wanted and more. It’s an idyllic venue to celebrate a special occasion or a romantic weekend to create a new and lasting memory.

Rooms and suites are uniquely decorated and filled with antiques and treasures to provide an elegant English residential feel designed around your comfort. We were one of the first to experience the newly

providing a sumptuous home from home with great digital connection, exquisite bed linen and king-sized bed. Including our own discreet butler service, cocktails upon arrival, a welcome a bottle of Laurent Perrier Brut champagne, a complimentary Rachel Vosper bespoke candle, tasty treats and even helium balloons!

The Dorchester offers more than just a superb night’s sleep in this spectacular timeless setting. The Promenade is a cosy extension of the foyer with expensive diamond jewellery and all matter of bling and watches displayed in glass cabinets, a champagne bar and a pianist in the evenings. Guests can experience the finest British afternoon tea while businessmen meet among the spectacular palms, marble pillars and giant floral displays. It’s also a prestigious dining destination with incredible restaurants to delight all tastes with a 3 Michelin starred restaurant designed by French chef Alain Ducasse. We had dinner at “The Grill” where he oversees the menu. Our table was in the far corner, the best spot to observe the main dining room,

bar and kitchen brigade! Shelves behind this exposed open kitchen showcase Alain Ducasse’s attractive line of stunning pink copper cookware and pans. Clever pivoting wall panels create a separate tone from day to night with crisp white tables underneath a lavish over-sized bespoke gold Murano glass chandelier of giant flames, representing the flames of the grill. This theme runs throughout with Murano water glasses , table lamps and splendid chestnut leather banquettes and tub chairs. This palette of sparkling jewels of gold, pink copper and glass is glamorous and most appealing. Spoilt for choice, the food matched the surroundings in terms of quality. Highlights for us were their delicious signature native lobster chowder and the Surrey Farm black Angus cross ribeye steak 35 day aged to share from “The Trolley” carved and served in front of us and accompanied by mini mac & cheese with seasonal vegetable sides. Service is courteous, diplomatic and up to speed and we loved the buzz and everything about The Grill.

In the morning after a blissful sleep and superb breakfast I headed to The Spa to take time out to relax and unwind in the lounge and was indulged with a heavenly facial. The perfect way to relax and unwind. The spa Interiors have been designed by award-winning Fox Linton Associates, with chic elegance in mind, reflecting the glamorous style of the hotel. The Spa treatment rooms are tranquil with a serene relaxation room dedicated to deep relaxation with very desirable and comfy midnight blue sofa-style daybeds and elegant winged armchairs.

There

are state-of-the-art changing rooms and aromatic steam rooms with mood changing lighting and sculpture. Guests can choose a luxury branded beauty treatment from La Prairie, Valmont and Carol Joy London or Aromatherapy Associates
