THE WILLIAM BRAY A SHERE DELIGHT!
Set in one of Surrey’s most picturesque and chocolate-box pretty villages, The Bray is now under the new, independent family management of John Gater, a professional
restaurateur with an
amazing head chef (formally sous chef at the renowned Onslow Arms, Clandon) and a team of professional, friendly staff to ensure that guests receive the very best attention. It’s all about keeping things local and going out of their way to source as many ingredients as they can from the surrounding area – Silent Pool Gin, locally baked bread, fresh poultry and game, Surrey Hills ales, Albury vineyards revered sparkling wine to name but just a few! They serve delicious, freshly prepared food, all day every day. The perfect venue for a snack, sandwich, business lunch or relaxed dinner. Alongside their main menu they feature seasonal specialities, a weekday 2 or 3 course set menu lunchtime and evening as well as a children’s menu for the younger guests. Enjoy a relaxed Sunday out with the best traditional roasts in Shere. On sunny days, you can dine ‘al fresco’ and chill out in the garden and gorgeous decked seating area, perfect for taking in the views of the Surrey Hills. Or cosy up beside the log burning fire if it’s a bit nippy.
Sipping a glass of Prosecco, we selected our choices whilst sampling a tasty bread box with oil, balsamic and pan-fried honey and mustard chorizo - absolutely delicious! For starters, moules mariniere and sesame coated prawns with chilli mayonnaise. Both dishes beautifully presented, freshly prepared and cooked to order. There are over ten main dishes to choose from on the menu. We chose the Keralan coconut curry, a rich and creamy seafood combination of prawns, mussels, squid, cod and salmon served with basmati rice and homemade chapatti and the grilled rib eye steak (10oz) served with juicy roasted vine tomatoes, onion rings and chunky chips! My curry was everything you’d hope for from such a dish, and the steak was cooked to perfection. It cut like butter proving that the kitchen is just as
strong at the traditional dishes as the experimental. Although not fine dining, it is most definitely really good pub food – and the kind of place you wish you lived next door to.
Shere has plenty of attractions and lovely walks.
It’s perfect for families, walkers, cyclists and dogs, a great “Surrey day out.” Thanks to its film appearances including “The Holiday” starring Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Kate Winslet, close proximity to Newlands Corner and The Silent Pool, Shere is always buzzing and attracts visitors from far and wide. The garden and terrace are the perfect place to soak up some summer sunshine. Pop in and enjoy The Bray’s excellent hospitality whilst exploring the beautiful Surrey Hills.
