EDITOR’S LETTER
W
hat a fantastic start to the summer it has been, weeks of glorious sunshine and record breaking temperatures, as if the weather were trying to make up for the endless months of rain over the winter.
So for this scintillating, scrumptious, seductive and
sophisticated issue of Surrey Magazine we celebrate the British summer and outdoor pursuits in style. Our glamorous cover depicts the divine Dariia Makarova with a perky polo pony, photographed at the exclusive Emsworth Polo Grounds. Check out the rest of the shoot inside with the handsome male model and jocose Jens Langenfurth keeping myself, the team and the stylist, Miranda Holder, amused as we managed to handle the weather, horses and time constraints in our stride.
We cover the best British social season events, from the Royal Windsor Horse Show to Goodwood Revival and look at the highlights of the summer polo season, including major and local games in Surrey. I interview Max Charlton, the UK’s top ranked polo player, who shares the inside track on competing at an international level, all over the globe.
Wow factor from the watch industry. Luxury expert Nick Mannion expands on the future of the luxury industry and technology. We continue this theme with a look at the best places to moor your yacht and get straight from your plane to the beach in the shortest possible time.
Fitness while holidaying is the latest travel trend, so we
pop over to The Campus in Quinta Do Lago to brush up on our tennis and padel skills, cycle along captivating causeways in the Algarve and meet a few famous Olympians over lunch. It’s the ideal way to enjoy time with the family and come back looking not only tanned but healthy too. Though you can always sit on the beach with a good book and send the kids out to train in your stead, it’s good for their life skills. Time it right and you will run into your tennis, golf and football heroes too.
For the music fans, we have the complete list of melodious and merry music festivals taking place all over Surrey and beyond, with Hampton Court, Kew and Henley amongst others, and for those of dramatic inclination we list the talented, thoughtful and touching theatrical masterpieces available at theatres near you.
Finally our property maestro hones in on House of the
Year and trepidatious trends, and we review the pampering at Pennyhill Park Hotel and Spa and the delectations at the divine Dorchester Hotel.
We wish you all a sumptuous summer. Yves de Contades
