GARDENS Le Festival International des Jardins Until November 4, 2018 This botanical extravaganza should be the first port of call for any gardener (or garden admirer) worth his or her salt. Running from April, when spring bulbs like tulips will be in full bloom, right through until the frosts knock the final petals from the dahlias, this year’s theme of Jardins de la Pensée (Gardens of Thought) will be expressed through everything from interpretations of the ideas of celebrated authors to floral descriptions of the physical nature of the thinking process. Held at the Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire, guests will be able to venture out beyond the grounds to discover the town and the surrounding département of Loir-et-Cher.

Les Jardins Musicaux Until October 30, 2018
Paradise for history buffs and royal enthusiasts, the Palace of Versailles offers an immersive experience like no other with ‘Les Jardins Musicaux’. From spring through to autumn, this cultured event floods the grounds with Baroque music from the time of King Louis XIV, so guests can enjoy a sense of opulence while touring the outdoor statue museum.

Nuits des Mille Feux July 6-7 & August 3-4, 2018 Château de Villandry in the Indre-et-Loire département is known for its gardens. Filled with perfectly-manicured box hedging and popping with colour, these sublime grounds are illuminated every year for the ‘Nights of a Thousand Lights’ – a candlelit spectacle that casts a soft glow upon Villandry’s gardens and paths over two evenings. After a mesmerising walk through les jardins, visitors are treated to a firework display, taking the light to the sky and reflecting in the pond, also known as ‘Miroir d’Eau’, the ‘Water Mirror’.
