When the third Sunday of May 2019 fi nally rolls around, the picturesque Limousin town of Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne will be blushing rather brightly. Why? Strawberries! For just one day the humble fraise will be glorifi ed through markets, music and a massive, eight-metre tart crammed with some 800kg of juicy berries. And the best bit? All visitors are offered a slice!

The sweet little Mirabelle plum is the focus of this exuberant gathering in picture-perfect Metz every August. The Mirabelle is emblematic of the Lorraine, and this festival sings its praises to the exalted golden Prunus domestica via parades, theatre, tastings and markets – meaning there will be fruit, jam, tarts, pastries and liqueur galore! Spanning a full fortnight, this fl amboyant homage attracts more than 80,000 visitors to the city. It was launched as a biennial event in 1947 and has been held annually since 1953.
