FESTIVALS 2018 THE GUIDE
lucrative, modern farming methods and crops.
In preserving its heritage with the annual Foire de la Châtaigne, Mourjou has created a splendid event that has now begun to tempt visitors from all over Europe. Local apples are made into cider, which is liberally imbibed throughout the two-day fair as an accompaniment to various types of local chestnutty delights – breads, pastries, desserts, honey, preserves and pickles – all of which can be purchased at the market, alongside gift items, sculptures and chestnut wood furniture. You can even join in with the chestnut harvest if you wish – or just grab a bag of roasted chestnuts and enjoy nibbling your way through them while you watch the street performers and live music acts.

Salon du Chocolat October 31 – November 4, 2018 The tail end of October also sees one of the country’s most prestigious food-related
gatherings, the Salon du Chocolat. This high-profile event draws around 500 exhibitors each year, among them leading chefs and master chocolatiers from all corners of the world. As well as roaming around the stalls delighting in the wares, visitors can attend exhibitions and pastry workshops, watch chocolate demonstrations given by experts – and even witness a chocolate fashion catwalk!
The show also hosts some serious competitions, including the Pain au Chocolat Masters, the Artisan Pâtisserie Trophy, the International Cocoa Awards and – the crème de la crème of the chocolate world – the highly esteemed Awards du Chocolat.
