good news

Big congratulations to our buddy Paul Hornsby and his Muscadine Recording Studios on Vineville Ave. in Macon, Georgia. The studio has been listed in the Historic Macon Music Registry, thanks to the fine folks at GABBA (The Georgia Allman Broth- ers Band Association). Quite an honor!. . . Our favorite party band, The Boxmasters, have announced their tour dates for the sum- mer! Check ‘em out at boxmasters.com. The tour begins on July 6th. Get your tickets and meet and great packages now!. . . Another rather thrilling announcement is the return of Dickey Betts, who has announced a handful of tour dates! We3 couldn’t be more excited! The dates so far include: May 17: Macon City Auditorium, Macon, GA -- Sold Out; May 19: Florida Jam at the Sunset Cove Amphithe- ater, Boca Raton, FL; July 15: Great South Bay Music Festival, Patchogue, NY; July 18: Beacon Theatre, New York, NY; July 19: Peach Music Festival, Scranton, PA (exact performance date TBD); July 20: Ridgefield Playhouse, Ridgefield, CT; July 21: St. George Theatre, Staten Island, NY. That’s all for now, but we are hoping for more! (Hey Dickey, Upstate South Carolina misses you!). . . In a late piece of news Betts has also signed on for the second annual Southern Rock Cruise, where he will join Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Atlanta Rhythm Section, Kentucky Headhunbters and many others to rock the high seas. . . Back in January, Lit- tle Steven Van Zandt served as a finals judge for the International Blues Challenge, and came away so impressed with the Blues Foundation’s work to preserve blues heritage and celebrate blues recording and perform- ance that he offered to return as the host of the Blues Music Awards in order to help bring even greater awareness to the signifi-

cance of this music form. He will launch Blues Music Week with a special Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul show at Memphis’ Minglewood Hall on Tuesday, May 8. Then, on Thursday, May 10, he’ll emcee the biggest awards show in Blues at the Cook Convention Center, where he will be joined on stage by such big-name award presenters as Steve Miller, Joe Louis Walker, Janiva Magness, Tito Jackson, Candi Staton, and Tony Joe White.

The 39th class of Hall of Fame in-

ductees features an illustrious lineup: guitar great Roebuck “Pops” Staples, the incompara- ble drummer Sam Lay, the renowned blues pianist and songwriter Georgia Tom Dorsey, the acclaimed Chicago blues band The Aces, and the first “Queen of the Blues,” singer Mamie Smith. www.blues.org . . .
