NOW, WHERE WERE WE? THE RETURN OF COWBOY

by Michael Buffalo Smith Back in the fall of 2007, I went into the

studio with Cowboy for the recording of their all new album, their first in 36 years. I was around for the first half of the sessions which included all members of the original Cowboy band. The whole session was just amazing. One for the books. A few weeks later, Boyer and Talton would record the remainder of the album with later members of Cowboy, includ- ing Randall Bramblett. As often happens in the recording busi-

ness, the album became entangled in red tape, and for a while it looked as though it might never see the light of day. Happily, it is finally being released as 10’ll Getcha Twenty. Sadly, two of the band members did not live to see the release - bassist George Clark and singer/guitarist Scott Boyer, as well as pro-

ducer Johnny Sandlin. We, the fans, the lis- teners, are truly blessed to be able to hear and own this music. It’s as if no time had passed since they last recorded together. Pure magic. Pure Cowboy. What follows is my article from Gritz

magazine in 2007 that was also featured in my 2012 book Prisoner of Southern Rock: A Memoir. (Mercer University Press). Truly happy memories of getting to know these Capricorn Records stars, one of my all time favorite bands.
