Celebrations for heritage heroes at town museum
Looe Old Guildhall Museum and Gaol staff and volunteers have been celebrating winning the ‘Heritage Heroes’ title at the first Cornwall Heritage Awards. The museum won the award for its winter conservation team, who have worked over the last two years to create the museum’s new look. Assembling the new displays was the finishing step after the hidden work of ensuring all the artefacts were cleaned, correctly labelled and clearly displayed. All artefacts and photographs were also catalogued in a database. Team members have organised coffee mornings in Looe, at which they have collected memories from local people to be used as part of future displays. The award came with a £500 Heritage Lottery Fund grant that will be used for more improvements.
Petra Stephenson, chairperson of the management team, said: ‘I am very proud of the team, who have

A bidding war at a property auction resulted in a tiny garage and store selling for £34,000.
The garage and workshop on two floors at Clements Court in West Looe was sold jointly by Clive Emson auctioneers and Seasons estate agents.
It sold for £14,000 above the lower end of its freehold guide price. Senior auction valuer Katie Semmens said: ‘There is always
strong demand for parking in popular harbourside towns such as West Looe. There was keen interest in this property at auction when a bidding war broke out. The new owner has the advantage of a store or workshop above plus a mezzanine level. ‘Alternatively, they could follow a residential scheme subject to the necessary consents.’
