Majority of Brits say holidays improve health
The annual summer holiday is a British institution. But getting away from it all can also give your mental health a boost, say 82 per cent of people surveyed for insurance company Bought by Many. And according to the survey, 77 per cent think it improves physical health too. The insurance company claims
there’s a rising trend of people going on holiday specifically to improve their mental health. The survey confirms this, with 32 per cent of 18 - 32-year-olds saying they’ve done just that.
Planning a trip away this summer? Don’t forget to ask your pharmacist about products to keep you healthy on holiday, including sun protection products and remedies for tummy upsets and minor injuries.

Standing could help you lose weight
Standing instead of sitting for six hours a day could prevent weight gain and help you lose weight, say experts writing in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology. But before you throw out your office
chair and splash out on a standing desk, the amount of calories you’d burn by standing instead of sitting isn’t huge. According to the researchers, the average person burns 0.15 calories per minute by standing instead of sitting. This means you’d burn an extra 54 calories a day. However this works out as a weight
loss of 2.5kg in a year, provided the rest of your lifestyle stays the same (that is, you eat the same amount of food and do the same amount of exercise).
