The suite’s facilities allow students to print logos onto umbrellas and sell them to businesses
event to organise. We enlisted the help of professional comedy agency Headway Talent. Tickets were priced at £12.50, knowing that we needed to sell 144 to break even. We ran the event with seven volunteers: two on the bar, two collecting glasses, two covering tables and one event manager. Parents were encouraged to bring their own food, which reduced pressure on the committee and led to a delightful array of snacks and nibbles. We provided a reasonably priced bar, which included cask ale from a local brewery, but of course it was the prosecco that a collection by inviting guests to put donations into an envelope on their table, which raised over £300. Combined with the bar takings, It took four events to raise the £10,000 – one comedy night, one quiz night and two summer fayres – and we also partnered with HP Landscape for sponsorship of the IT equipment. The business and enterprise suite opened at Easter 2017, and is now used by the whole school for business and IT lessons, as well as by individual pupils with their own small businesses.’ Chris Rossiter, Assistant Headteacher, Kings’ School, Winchester (1,638 pupils)
