water and sewerage services and, from 1 April 2017, eligible non- household customers have been able to choose their supplier. The Water, Wastewater and Ancillary Services framework agreement (RM3790) provides a simple, easily accessible, cost-effective route. This new Open Water deal has a step-by-step eligibility checker to see if you qualify. You get a single point of contact for service, metering and billing, removing the need for you to manage multiple suppliers. As a customer, you manage the
operational relationship with suppliers, with the assurance that
CCS or your chosen PSBO are there to help and support you with any escalated issues or problems you may be unable to resolve.

APPLYING FOR SALIX FUNDING
Once suitable technologies have been chosen and you have applied for funding, a member of the Salix team will get in touch. You will need to have approval from your governing board, the council must be aware of the project, and the Headteacher should be happy to proceed. It is recommended that you engage these stakeholders before you apply. A consultant or council can apply on your behalf or the school can submit the application direct. 1. Create a log-in on the Salix website (
salixfinance.co.uk) 2. Complete the application form. 3. Fill out and attach a compliance tool to the application. 4. Attach supporting information, such as an LED lighting survey and specifications of the new technology to be fitted. 5. Submit the application. Once Salix has approval from
the Headteacher, the application will be passed on to the in-house technical team, who will check the project is in line with other projects of this type. Salix aims to approve applications within two weeks but this may vary. A letter of commitment is then issued and the project can start. Once the work is complete,
Salix transfers the loan to the public sector client, however interim payments can be offered if the contractors are asking for payment prior to completion.

HOW THE LOAN WORKS The interest-free loan is calculated based on predicted savings. Salix funds up to an eight-year payback (predicted annual savings multiplied by eight). For example, If the project costs £8,000, and there are predicted energy savings of £1,000 per year, the loan would be calculated as follows: eight (the maximum payback we fund) multiplied by £1,000 = £8,000. Salix would therefore be able to fund 100% of this project. As the interest-free loan is paid
back from the energy savings, it should be completely cost neutral. The Secretary of State has given blanket approval for all schools to be able to take out a Salix loan. The loan is paid back twice a year and the timing of the first repayment will depend on when the project is completed, giving you time to accrue savings. Funding for maintained schools
is available all year around. For academies there is a specific application window, usually once a year. Please check the Salix website (

gas emissions in order to achieve a sustainable future. Position energy monitoring displays somewhere visible as a constant reminder to students to consider their energy use. Many schools are now measuring
and monitoring their energy consumption online using Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) devices. Mapping energy use can be built into learning or tracked by your school’s eco team. Use this information to create a ‘building user diary’ to correlate patterns of high or low consumption with occupation – this will enable you to identify further potential savings.
