Orchestra


I hope your school year is going well! A lot of planning has been happening to ensure that you and your students have the best Region I Orchestra experience this year. Our High School Orchestra Conductor is James Anderson, who is the Orchestra Director at the University of Delaware. Our Junior High School Orchestra Director is Jack Rosenberg, who is the Orchestra Director at Leonia High School. The selected concert programs are going to be enjoyed by students and audiences. There has also been a lot of planning


for this year’s HS and JHS Orchestra Festival, which will be held on April 19th, 2018. Please contact me if your orchestra(s) are interested in participating. Our Region I Elementary Honors Orchestra is going to be on April 28th, 2018 and applications will be available in early January. The Region I Orchestra Division is looking for another Division Chair. If you are interested in being more involved with the Region I Orchestra as a Division Chair, or in any other way please contact me. I’d love to talk with you at your convenience. certs at Rowan University. On Sunday, January 7th we will present our Orchestra and String Ensemble concert. This is the 64th anniversary concert for the Orches- tra which will be conducted by Salvatore Scarpa (Rowan University). The Junior High String Ensemble will be conducted by Sue Mark (Rosa International MS). The managers for the Orchestra and String Ensemble are Alex Rones (Bridgeton Pub- lic Schools), Laura Kearney (Moorestown Upper Elementary), Carrington Thomp- son (Rowan University), and Sara Smith (Rowan University). The following Sun- day, January 14th the Wind Ensemble and the Symphonic Band will perform in their 72nd anniversary concert. The Wind Ensemble will be conducted by Brian Balmages (Composer) and Ben Fong (Re- tired) will conduct the Symphonic Band. The managers for the Wind Ensemble are Shannon Hughes (Northern Burlington County Regional MS) and D. Michael Lynch (Cherokee HS). Mark Kadetsky (Egg Harbor Township Schools) and Jon Porco (Absegami HS) will manage the Symphonic Band. Our concert hosts for these performances are Sal Scarpa, Joe Higgins, and Rick Dammers. These concerts would not be pos- sible without the commitment and dedi- cation of our colleagues. Phil Senseney (retired, Southern Regional Schools) and Deb Knisely (Cinnaminson HS) did an outstanding job in providing our students with a positive audition experience. John Stanz and Rhea Fernandes provided an excellent facility for our students, parents, and membership at the auditions which were held at Eastern Regional HS.
