LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR BY LAURA SHELTON, CMP

Your Issues are Our Issues I

t is that time of year again—when we welcome cooler weather, weekends full of football, countdowns to holiday celebrations, and trees shedding their leaves to make room for new spring growth. Just like the trees, DATIA is gearing up for new

offerings—to serve its members and their needs even beter, in order to foster growth for members and the industry. Tanks to the DATIA member survey, we are able to see what is important to our

members. (If you don’t complete the survey each year, I encourage you to do so! Check your email for information on the next survey this winter.) Highlights of the most recent survey include: • Te vast majority of DATIA members are small businesses with 15 or fewer employees involved in drug and alcohol testing.

• Over half of survey respondents saw an increase in their testing volume in 2016 over 2015. • Members rate the DATIA mission most important to them as, “To promote the highest possible standards of professionalism and quality control in the drug and alcohol testing industry, and develop and oversee education, certification, and accreditation programs for the drug and alcohol testing industry.”

When DATIA’s members succeed, DATIA succeeds; and it is management’s mission to ensure that each DATIA member is provided with

valuable resources and information that enables them to successfully provide drugfree workplace programs for the benefit of employers.

• When asked to identify the top issues that members are facing, the overwhelming majority identified issues related to marketing of their business, gaining clients, increasing profitability, business management, and other business-related issues. Now that members have spoken, what does it mean for DATIA? It means that members

can look forward to many new initiatives in 2018 directed towards tackling those business issues important to members, and providing you with new resources and education to make your operations a success. It means that members can feel assured that we are listening and evaluating our programs and initiatives to ensure that they are in line with not only DATIA’s mission, but more importantly with the needs of our members. When DATIA’s members succeed, DATIA succeeds; and it is management’s mission to ensure that each DATIA member is provided with valuable resources and information that enables them to successfully provide drugfree workplace programs for the benefit of employers. We look forward to a rewarding 2018 and sharing members’ success stories with all

members. As always, should you have suggestions or ideas on topics for future DATIA focus articles, training courses, or other educational offerings, I’d love to hear from you. With that, please enjoy the fall issue of DATIA focus! ❚

Best,

Laura Shelton, CMP DATIA Executive Director
