What has largely been a domestically sourced industry for decades has now developed into a global marketplace, with operations, partnerships, and joint-ventures seeming to pop up weekly.

With expansions into different countries, the laboratory and the employer may even find that they are divided by language. One way to deal with this problem is
by building and implementing an online CCF system as a database-driven web application. By making the content of the application database-driven, one has the ability to view and translate information in parcels, which will then drive the content shown in the application. When designing our system, we provided our translators with simple words and phrases, and then loaded their translations alongside the English in the database. Now, when an online CCF user chooses a language from the

dropdown, the translation is loaded from the database almost instantly. While the system is dynamic and reacts intuitively to different workflow choices (i.e., choosing to collect a hair specimen vs. urine or oral fluid), the database guides the system to provide the correct and approved translations. Te user is also free to switch between languages at will, allowing a collector to show donors each page in their own language. Te simplicity of this type of system allows a system manager to quickly upload a full application in English, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Malay, Arabic, or any other language. With a system built with this flexibility, new translation requests can typically be functional within four weeks. While building our system, we also found a way to address employers needing customized CCFs and Result Reports in their language. Within the CCF system, you can build in functionality that allows a custom CCF to be loaded and used as a template. Using this method, clients in Brazil can already generate CCFs in their own custom layout with Portuguese content. You can also use the idea of database- driven translations to develop a results translation system. Translation data can be easily loaded into the system, aſter which employers can be added to receive results in that language. To ensure accuracy and accountability,
a translated results system should automatically create two versions of a translated Result Report; one in English, the other in the chosen translation. We have had success in building a system like this, and can currently offer result reports in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Chinese, Russian, German, Italian, and Turkish. Tis is especially important as more countries begin to require that results be provided in their native language. While some laboratories choose to manually translate and re-report the results
individually, this becomes problematic in terms of maintaining proper chain of custody, and ensuring that confidentiality is maintained. It also cannot be forgoten that individual translation is time-consuming and can lead to errors. With access to readily available translations of CCFs and Result Reports through web applications, a laboratory is able to safely and easily provide drug testing documentation that is more useful for international clients. Online CCF applications can also
assist with the collection and reporting of instant testing. Point of care tests can be integrated into the system, allowing users to collect the specimen, enter the readings from the device, and generate a result using a workflow in their language. With the popularity of instant tests globally, this will allow donors worldwide to receive negative drug screen results moments aſter the collection. We have already integrated and tested this concept, allowing point of care tests to be collected and resulted through the system in a number of different languages. Any point of care tests that require further testing are forwarded to the laboratory. For mobile collectors, this will prove itself to be an effective and efficient tool for providing instant drug testing services across the globe. Te use of database-driven translations should not be limited to online CCF applications, though. Test result portals are oſten difficult to navigate for those who speak a different language. In response to this, you can use the database-driven concept to offer test result portals in a number of different languages. Trough the use of a dropdown menu, users can easily navigate their portal in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, or any language they may require.
