Sharon: ‘We offer a large choice of frames from reasonably priced up to designer and my speciality is finding something that will be both comfortable and look fantastic. Being independent we can carry what stock we like and we often order frames in for people to look at - we have access to thousands.


We generally use award-winning Hoya lenses and a state of the art ordering system, which results in the thinnest and lightest lenses with a short delivery time. We can dispense any make if people have a preference - Ziess or Essilor, for example.


We also provide a private hearing aid service. We work with Bloom Hearing whose audiologist Sadie Brain carries out free hearing assessments on a regular basis. They supply the most up to date hearing aids, both in terms of technology and size.’


How important is it to work in an independent? Tom: ‘To me it makes all the difference. In a lot of chains there is pressure, whether that is time pressure or sales pressure. At Dart we have long appointments so we can spend more time with customers and get to know them a bit better - we can identify what people really want.’


Sharon: ‘It’s great to be an Independent - we can stock things that are a little bit different, and people would rather have a town with a good supply of Independent shops, wouldn’t they? Town centres are all beginning to look the same, so we must support independents - whether it’s coffee shops or clothes shops or opticians!’
