J
on and I met back in July 2012, going on our first date in Wim- bledon. We met on eHarmony
– many people like to keep it secret that they met online but we’ve always been happy to share. Jon mentioned it in his speech on the wedding day, as his previous dates before brought much comedy. Jon was my first date! We fell in love and in March 2016,
after a day of sight-seeing, Jon proposed in Central Park in New York overlooking the lake. It was very romantic but I couldn’t believe he had been walking around all day with the ring loose in his pocket! Shortly after getting engaged, we
went to visit my family in Devon and this turned into a great opportunity to view some venues. Dartington fulfilled all of our expectations. The grandeur and history of the building was fantastic but the real selling point was the Private Garden where we could hold the wedding cere- mony. It is such a little gem! We also loved the fact that we could have many of our guests to stay, which is something we definitely wanted from the very beginning.
The Great Hall blew us away as a reception venue and we loved the fact we could have the whole day based in one place. We are so thrilled we chose Dartington! Generally, I wanted to use local suppliers. I found some suppliers through recommendations on
“We loved the fact we could have the whole day based in one place”
websites and through the suppliers I had booked, which was excellent. Many venues also list their recommended suppliers, which is very useful. When looking for a florist, I really
wanted to meet them in person. My mum suggested the local florist ‘Green Sails’ in Torpoint and we arranged a meeting for when I was visiting home. What I really liked was when I showed a photo of my dress and explained the colour theme (gold and blush pink), Vanessa came up with her own thoughts and concepts, and I was happy to give her artistic licence with the flowers – the antique roses were beautiful! My brother and sister-in-law
used Ben at Foster Filming for the videography for their wedding a
few years ago, so we decided to use him for ours, as the results of their final video were just wonderful. He recommended using Barney Walters Photography, so we booked! Both were absolutely amazing on the day! Final tips … • Both get involved with the planning and preparation! I took responsibility for finding most of the suppliers and ideas for the décor ... Jon is an amazing artist and spent many months producing all the artwork for the table centres and creating a fingerprint guestbook tree. It all helps add that personal touch to the day! • Pinterest is a great planning tool! • Book all the suppliers as soon as possible – they go quickly! • Try to keep everything in perspec- tive and to cherish every moment of the big day as it goes in a flash!
Jon and Laura’s wedding was such a success. If interested in using Dartington Hall as your wedding venue, contact our Wedding Coordinator on 01803 847145 or email bookings@
