competition news Red Dragon success

This year’s prestigious British Horse Feeds Red Dragon Festival of Endurance was once again hugely successful with competitors travelling far and wide to compete. The hugely popular event took place in the beautiful countryside at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells. British Horse Feeds sponsored the Speedi-Beet Red Dragon (2 x 80km CER), the Fibre-Beet Dragon’s Tail (80km CER + 42km GER) and the British Horse Feeds Little Dragon (80km CER). Lauren Mills and her own 20-year-old Oakleaze Farm Czaerko claimed the victory in the Speedi-Beet Red Dragon, the same partnership having won the class in 2014. They have also been young rider national championship and are now the national champions, which was a fairytale result as Lauren had retired Czaerko two years ago when he sustained a tendon injury. “He’s been a training partner for my other horses and ended up so fit he needed a job to do again”, said Lauren. Sarah Rogerson on Warrens Hill Rubyn finished in second

place and Rachael Cratchley on Open T’Offers taking third, also winning the award for Best Condition. This pair won the Cairngorm 100 earlier this year and Open T’Offers provided his toughness in what were difficult, wet conditions over challenging terrain. The Handling and Presentation Award in the Speedi-Beet Red Dragon went to Karen Jones and Treasured Moonbeam after much deliberation. It was a first for Kathy Carr on Aberllwyd Femme Fatalle in the Fibre-Beet Dragon’s Tail, and it was a mother/daughter rivalry race for second, which was claimed by Charlotte Chadwick on Sky’s The Limit, resulting in Ruth Chadwick and Tannasq Psyrenkus finishing third. The British Horse Feeds Little Dragon and Advanced Championship went to Sally McIlwaine and Mahbubti coming home first, Carina Kane on Evermore Artistic finished in second and Lesley Nott with Firebird took the third place. Best condition went to Miracle and Tracey Sawyer and the Handling & Presentation award went to Summer Breeze 1 and

Linda Cowperthwaite in the Little Dragon and Advanced Championship. Said Martin Bielby of British Horse Feeds, “It has been another fantastic year at Red Dragon. It was great to see all the competitors enjoying the event and fantastic surroundings for the competition. “The event support is perfect for British Horse Feeds with Speedi- Beet high in fibre which is ideal for endurance horses requiring stamina for the sport, and also helping horses to rehydrate.” For more information on British Horse Feeds visit www.britishhorsefeeds.com

Craig wins recognition award

After a successful weekend at the British Horse Feeds Red Dagon Festival of Endurance there was one last prize to be awarded – The Best Crew Member 2017 -and it went to Craig Chadwick from Stoke on Trent.

Like any competition, not just in Endurance, it is always helpful to have someone there to support and offer a helping hand. The prestigious British Horse Feeds Recognition Award for Best Crew Member 2017 was created to give riders the chance to show some appreciation by nominating their supporters for the title. Craig, nominated by his 17-year-

old daughter Charlotte, was supporting both his wife Ruth and Charlotte, throughout the competition. Charlotte nominated her Dad because he isn’t just a crew member and Dad, he is Charlotte’s best friend. Said Charlotte: “My Dad puts his heart and soul into crewing whenever we go out competing and has driven me across the UK and overseas to Portugal and Holland so I can do what I love, endurance.” Charlotte continued: “His hard work isn’t just at competitions; he works extremely hard at home and knows my horses inside out.” Craig’s wife has been competing

in Endurance for 15 years and has passed the love for the sport on to Charlotte who became interested in the discipline at the young age of seven. With a yard of five horses and Charlotte competing internationally for Great Britain, this means the family has done many miles of travelling including the European Championships in Portugal. Said Craig: “It was such a surprise that I was chosen for the award. The British Horse Feeds Red Dragon Festival of Endurance was great and we really enjoyed our weekend there.”
