Our tester, Chris Grant, says: The visibility of this rug is second to none. Ideal for riding in the darker autumn and winter months, it is a great fluorescent colour and has very effective reflective strips on the front, sides and tail guard providing immediate visual impact. The rug is very well designed, it is fully waterproof on the outside and has a brilliant wick away fabric on the inside, a great help to keeping the horse dry when exercising. The rug has lots of features to help prevent movement, with both a fillet string attached to the back and under the belly and slits for the girth or a surcingle, plus it also features an optional chest band which is fully adjustable or can be taken off if not required. It is a very generous fit preventing any restriction of movement from the horse underneath. I also liked that it is cut away at the riders legs which firstly keeps the rug cleaner but also means leg can still be applied to the horse effectively. My last plus point for the rug is the useful pocket just behind the saddle, great for carrying essentials such as a hoof pick or sandwiches. It’s certainly been well used already since my ponies were clipped and a great addition to the wardrobe with the long winter ahead.

Lemieux – Four Seasons Rug
The company says: One of the most useful rugs around the stable or at a show with its great thermal & wicking qualities. Will function as a top of the range cooler, wicking away moisture through its top layer, whilst fleece inner lining allows air flow to keep horse warm and dry. It’s also smart enough, coming in four classy colours, to use as a show rug with lovely braided rope detail on outside binding colour co-ordinated to the rug. Can also be embroidered for that personal touch! Deep rolled back collar for maximum comfort and security of the rug. Fully adjustable twin front straps allows for freedom & movement in the chest & shoulders. Ideal as a travel rug, under rug or day rug. Offering a degree of ‘climate control’ for your horse wherever and whatever he’s doing. Easily washable at 40c with quick drying properties. Can be combined with matching neck cover. Colours: Benetton Blue; Black, Burgundy; Navy & Chocolate Brown. Sizes: Medium (5’9/6’0); Large 6’3-6’6; XLarge 6’9-7’0. RRP: £89.95.

Our tester, Caroline Powell, says: When I removed this rug from the bag my first reaction was that it was going to be too heavy for this time of year and more suitable for the colder, winter days... but once again, I was proven wrong as we started to use it. There is a double layer of fleece and wicking meaning the fleece, close to the horse, keeps it warm while the top layer takes the moisture away. As a result the horses dried surprisingly quickly. The rug has a high neck and very secure front fitting with hook and loop fastening, plus two fully adjustable front clips which allow for a lot of alteration so you get a correct fit, also there is one strap under the belly and a very smart fillet string. Although we have used the rug on a daily basis it would be very easy to “pimp my rug” as it does also have a neck rug attachment which is sold separately and would look very professional with embroidery on it. Easy to wash and holds its shape well. A good addition to any yard.

Our tester, Terri Graham, says: A super quality outdoor rug, that comes with leg arches which let the rug under the belly without any restrictions to the movement of the horse. Detachable neck for warmer days and which is a really good fit around the neck and shoulders, no rubbing, also aided by the silky lining which allows the rug to move with the horse. A new type of front fastening, called a disc closure, simply a strong plastic disc through which you thread broad Velcro straps through and back to attach. I am not sure how easy that will be with frozen fingers or how effective the Velcro will be when less than pristine but at the moment very secure. The outer is 1200D so very tough but light and flexible polyester, it has three belly straps set quite low, the fillet string is in a plastic tube so easy to clean, tail guard is a good size protective but not so huge it gets covered in poo! This rug is hard wearing, super comfy for the horse, and easy to manage even when drenched in mud!
