Raise a Pony for our Ponies…
If you’ve visited our Church Knowle Rehoming and Visitor Centre in Wareham since the beginning of August, you will have noticed some big changes...
Our old barn was taken down, ground work started, new hard standing put down and now it’s really starting to take shape. It has been essential to build a new barn, as over the last 3-5 years there has been an increase in the rescue and rehoming of Field Animals, particularly horses. Our old covered yard only
had four stables, and in addition had wind and rain cover issues due to the breezeblock walls and asbestos roofi ng, and was not suitable for our larger animals due to the low ceiling height. Surrounding the covered yard were four small enclosures, with two old and dilapidated shelters, which were no longer fi t for sustained use.
The lack of a barn stabling area was restricting the amount of horses and farm animals we could be rescuing and rehoming. We have 16 equines at the centre at the moment, and only six stables. Any of our horses may need stabling at short notice should they become sick or injured or due to adverse weather and the new barn will resolve this and many other issues should an emergency arise.
In short, the new barn will improve the lives, not just for our horses, but for many of our animals at Church Knowle.
Although the work is well under way, we still need your help in raising the total amount of £150,000 to fund this massive project.
