killed August 7 in Jefferson. She loved horses and was a past mem- ber, officer, and board member of West Louisiana Barrel Racing As- sociation.
Jerry Key, 75, Weatherford,
passed away August 19. He trained cutting horses and was ac- tive for decades in the NCHA and the ACHA. In 2001, he was in- ducted into the ACHA Open Rider Hall of Fame. He particu- larly enjoyed watching young cut- ters grow up, thus he was quite involved with the National Youth CHA. Family recommended that memorial donations be made to the Jerry Key Youth Sponsorship, NCHA Charities Foundation, c/o the Youth, 260 Bailey Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76107.
Frenchy Jet, age 30, was eu-
thanized August 24 by owner Nick Pernokas, Stephenville. Per- nokas bought the William Burrus- trained gelding 19 years ago, and the duo won the 1999 AQHA am- ateur breakaway-roping high- point title. They also enjoyed much success in the USCRA and the PRCA.
We Be Jettin, an amazing
AQHA all-around gelding, was euthanized August 28 at the age of 31. Joetta Meredith Bell bought the buckskin in 1994 and they made an unforgettable team. He racked up almost 2,000 AQHA points plus 5 AQHA world cham- pionships, 3 in horsemanship and 2 in showmanship.
Bob Byrd, 88, Jayton, died
September 8. In 1964, he owned and rode Miss Ginger Dee, NCHA Futurity Co-Champion, the only time in history there was ever a tie in that event. Memorials may be made to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch or the charity of choice. w
