Haire (4D), while pole champions were Mag- gie Smith (1D), Tina McGhee (2D), and K.K. Birchfield (3D). Flags champs were Marlee Huffstedler (1D) and Nathan Nix (2D).
Southwest QHA’s Fall Futurity circuit,
held September 1-4 in Las Cruces, NM, was outstanding, with big classes in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Futurity winners in- cluded Von Many Letters (3yo-Reining & 3yo- Ranch Horse Pleasure/Joe Armstrong/Josh Armstrong), Smooth Little Asset (3yo-Ranch- Horse-Trail/Means Brothers/Evan Hall), Squiggle (Wnlg-Fillies/Caroline Ellis), Can U Say Cool (2yo-Geldings/Phillip Martinez), Hot New Machine (2&3yo-HUS/China Vogel), Mightysized (NP-2&3yo-HUS/Kelly Cam- pion), Nuther Yellow Chex (Yrlg-Longe- Line/Hugh Trotter/Hannah Blaeser), and Easy Lope Money (2&3yo-WP/Robert or Caroline O’Gorman/Kriste Brock).
Ranch Horse Championships hosted
classes September 1-4 during SWQHA’s Fall Futurity in Las Cruces. Overall high-money earner was Deal A Little Lena, ridden by Katherine Arnold and winning Amateur Box- ing plus Open and Amateur Reining. Open high-money earner was Von More Round, owned by Letha Rushing, ridden by Jacinda Roybal, and winning Ranch Riding. Other Open winners were Von Gus (Working Cow Horse/Josh Armstrong) and Boomin Miss Skeets (Ranch Trail/Christine Brannon). Doc Acre Reward was amateur high money winner, with Natalie Baca winning Ranch Riding and Ranch Trail. Youth division wins went to Whizzards (Boxing, Reining, and Trail/Jess & Tyler Martin) and Peppy Gunsmoke (Ranch Riding/Michela Corn).
Arkansas Barrel Racing Association
kicked off a new season in September, and there is a new Executive Board, too. Board members are President Amanda Kyne, VP Randy Ingle, Secretary Terri Bateman, Assis- tant-Secretary Terra Evans, Treasurer Nakia Ritchie, and Publicity Director Jodie Grissom.

Texas A&M University’s ANSC 311,
Equine Behavior and Training class, com- monly called the Horse Training” or “Colt Starting” class, teaches undergraduate students to safely and effectively train young horses. This semester those students are working with 20 yearling and 2-year-old Quarter Horses. The yearlings are receiving ground work and the 2- year-olds basic riding. Sired by stallions owned by the Department of Animal Science, the 2- year-olds will be available for purchase in No- vember and December ready for the riding discipline of your choice. The Cotton Stakes (NCHA) was held
September 3-10 in West Monroe, LA. There was a 3-way tie for top money in the Open Fu- turity, among Boyd Rice on Mike Gregory’s Seven S Blue Rey, Dell Bell on Lisa Crossen’s A Little Wild Cat, and Austin Sheppard on Les Ammons’s La Bets Cash.

Appeal Grievance Committee reviewed evi- dence regarding a complaint against Tommy Manion, Aubrey, on September 6. At a cutting in Whitesboro July 15, he was videotaped shooting his horse with a BB gun. The com- mittee determined that Manion had violated
