impressive trip. After four nights cruising, I, and my fortunate fellow guests, disembarked at the legendary Victoria Falls. This time I was actually lost for words (my wife says this was a first) at the majesty of the Falls. The grandeur and the deafening roar of the water as it tumbles over the Falls, is, undoubtedly one of the natural wonders of the world. For me though, the highlight of our wonderful two night stay was surly the memorable, and exclusive, ‘sundowner’ cruise on the Zambezi river. Gin and tonic, with a background of elephants and the setting African sun - perfect! Our small party now enjoyed, what

and wildlife can be enjoyed. The top deck can be visited for wildlife spotting, sun bathing or perhaps a ‘sundowner’ and it was here I was to be found every evening as the last rays of sunlight disappeared below the horizon. Meals, including wonderful vegetarian options, are of the highest standard, matched perfectly by the ship’s impressive wine list. In addition to the many highlights

to be experienced on board the Zambezi Queen, Amawaterways have teamed up with Rovos Rail to add another dimension in luxury and holiday experience to this already

for many was to be the highlight of this incredible journey, when we boarded the Rovos Rail train at Victoria Falls Station for our three night train trip to Johannesburg. Rovos Rail has been described as ‘The Orient Express of Africa’. The train recaptures the romance and atmosphere of a bygone era. As soon as you step aboard the reconditioned wood-panelled coaches you are surrounded by five star luxury, with fine cuisine and wines to match. The Observation carriages, at the back of the train, allowed us to enjoy not only the wonderful African scenery, but the opportunity for game viewing continued as the train wound its way across the countryside of Zimbabwe,

Botswana and South Africa. All guest rooms have en-suite bathrooms and are equipped to the highest standards, offering every modern convenience and comfort. I really felt that I was in one of the world’s top hotels, although, of course, a moving one! For me this marvellous trip combines several elements; stunning game viewing from the very special decks of the Zambezi Queen, the natural wonder of the Victoria Falls and the easy paced luxury of train travel from yester year. All this adds- up to a unique and very memorable holiday…for not all holidays are the same!
